Stephen (Grant) Lewis was already a successful high school basketball player in 1969, but found himself without a team when Hamilton Park High School shut down. Making a quick transition with both his academics and athletics, Lewis helped guide Jesuit Dallas to back-to-back TCIL State Championships.

The 1969-70 basketball team finished 32-6, winning the Knights of Columbus Tournament and finishing as consolation champion in the prestigious Dr. Pepper Tournament. The team was the first in School history to produce 30 victories, going 12-0 in district play while winning 23 consecutive games to set another School record. Lewis was named to the All-District and All-Texas Catholic teams following the season. He replicated the All-District honors as a senior while adding TCIL All-State plaudits in 1971. Leading the Rangers in scoring, Jesuit topped 25 wins for the second straight year en route to another TCIL crown.

After Jesuit, Lewis played basketball for St. Mary’s University, helping the Rattlers be a power in the Big State Conference and qualify for three NAIA National Championship Tournaments.
