Rangers Set to Host 51st Annual Jesuit-Sheaner Relays

On Saturday, March 21, over 100 schools from Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas will descend on the campus of Jesuit Dallas for the 51^st running of the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays. Hosting over 1,000 athletes, including a number of All-Americans and state champions, the Jesuit-Sheaner Relays serves as one of the largest and most competitive high school-only track & field meets in the nation.

This year's edition will actually kick off under the lights on Friday evening, as the meet will cross two days for the first time. Friday's spotlight event is the 3200-meter run, which will begin with the girls select race at 6:30 p.m., followed by the boys. Last year, Keller's Austen Dalquist out-dueled Texas 5A state-meet champion Carter Blount (Frisco Independence) in a sensational race that resulted in Dalquist breaking the tape in a meet-record time of 9:00.41.

Four U.S. #1 performances were set at last year's meet and 11 different marks ranked among the top three in the nation. In addition, the top result of the season for Texas high schools was recorded in seven different events, while the meet produced a total of 51 U.S. Elite performances. With 22 reigning state-meet champions and 43 UIL state medalists already set to participate, the 2015 Jesuit-Sheaner Relays will once again serve as one of the nation's premier regular-season meets.

Among the standouts in this year's field are Carrollton Creekview's Samantha Gonzalez, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation in the 300m hurdles; Aaliyah Miller of McKinney Boyd, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the 800m; Darrion Flowers of Arlington Sam Houston, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the 100m; and Waco Meyer's Blaine Listach, ranked No. 2 in the nation in the high jump. Over one dozen nationally-ranked individuals are registered, as are the reigning UIL state-championship cross country teams from Southlake Carroll (Boys 6A) and Canyon Randall (Girls 5A).

In addition to the competitors, the meet will highlight two honorary referees: Erin Bedell, a former Gatorade Track & Field Athlete of the Year and multi-time state record-holder from Plano West, and Scott Jackson, legendary head coach and athletic administrator in DISD.
