Debuting a 2017-18 roster full of young talent, the Jesuit Dallas cycling team opened the season with a pair of criterium races on Sep. 9 at Breckenridge Park in Richardson and Sep. 14 at Sister Grove Park in Dallas.
Â
Consisting of several laps of varying distance on a closed course, criterium races are ranked from A-to-C, with the A-Grade race reserved for advanced and elite racers. On Sep. 14, senior
Kolbe Surran finished seventh in the 60-minute B-grade race, posting a final time of 40:35.57 after 36 laps averaging 25 miles per hour. Surran led off the day by crossing the line fourth in the 30-minute C-grade race, clocking a 31:06.48 after the 27-lap race to finish .44 seconds ahead of fifth place.
Â
Sophomore
Saul Cano added a 13th place finish in the C-Grade race with a 31:58.18 through 25 laps, averaging 22.05 miles per hour through the event. Overall, Jesuit placed all but one racer inside the top-25, peppering the leaderboard with six racers in the top 20. Surran opened the season by finishing 20th in the B-Grade race on Sep. 9, leading the Rangers in their first race of the year.
Â
Jesuit Dallas will continue the season on Sunday, October 1 when the Blue and Gold travel to Huntsville, Texas for their first Texas Mountain Bike Racing Association (TMBRA) event of the year at Huntsville State Park.
