Anthony Mattacchione

Anthony Mattacchione has developed the Jesuit rugby program into one of the most admired varsity high school programs in the state since becoming a varsity sport in the fall of 1999. Under Mattacchione’s tutelage, The Rangers have advanced to six straight (12 total) Texas High School Rugby (Rugby Texas/TYRA) Final Four appearances (2007-12), while the 2010 squad finish the year as the top-ranked team in the state.

According to RugbyMag, the Rangers have been ranked as high as No. 10 in the country in 2010 and no worse than No. 10 at the state level at start of the season. Mattacchione’s teams have compiled an overall record of 198-54-3 (.786) entering the 2015 season. In 2008, thanks to the performance of the program, and their first national championship appearance, the Jesuit Alumni Lettermen’s Club named Coach Mattacchione a Finalist for the Coach of the Year Award.

A native of Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, Mattacchione played rugby collegiately at York University (Toronto) and was the team MVP his senior year. Prior to his coaching tenure at Jesuit, Mattacchione was the women’s assistant head coach at York for a season and the junior varsity head coach and forwards coach at his alma mater, Father Bressani Catholic High School, for nine years.

He and his wife, Kelli, reside in Dallas with their two children, Anthony Jr. and Maelee. In addition to his commitment to rugby, Mattacchione has served as the assistant director of the Community Service and social justice program at Jesuit since the fall of 2002.
