Rangers Drop Bout with No. 1 Highland Park

Release Contributed by Head Coach Paul McDaniel

Battling with a great deal of fortitude and determination against the state's top-ranked squad, the Jesuit Rangers' attempt to stun Highland Park fell short on Friday afternoon, 11-1.  Certainly it is a loss but against the currently No. 1 ranked and defending University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Champions, maybe the score doesn't tell the whole story.

For instance, the Rangers split sets and lost super tiebreakers in seven of the eight matches.  If Jesuit won each of those breakers, the Rangers would have taken home the win.

"It was a lot tougher match than the score indicated.  I have no hesitation in praising the effort of our guys," commented Coach Paul McDaniel.  "This was a hard fought, very physically draining, emotional match.  The Highland Park kids don't give up, don't give you anything easy and today they won the points in the crucial moments.  That's why they are the best team in the state."

Campbell Frost & Hayden Kissee kept their unbeaten streak alive at #1 Doubles.  Also, Nico Elizondo may not have won, but fighting off cramps in the third set, he showed the type of character & heart which best represents Jesuit Tennis.

The Rangers next battle Irving at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
