Ranger tennis moved its record against University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A opponents to 6-0 with a dominant, 13-0 win over Berkner on Tuesday, October 4. Jesuit moves to 7-1 on the season after scoring its second shutout of the year and has outscored district foes, 58-13, this season.
Jesuit's freshman doubles team of
Reid Staples and
Diego Trejo remained unbeaten in doubles play after upending the Rams, sparking a sweep of doubles which included a win for first years
Trey Ashmore and
Patrick Moore.
"Our younger guys have been working really hard and this was an opportunity to reward them with some valuable playing time," commented Jesuit head coach
Paul McDaniel. "It also allows us to move some guys like
Joey Cistulli and
Marcelo Pier up into the top six and face some stiffer competition."
Cistulli and Pier responded with victories on the singles schedule, while sophomore
Kota Ueshima continued his momentous beginning to the 2016-17 tennis season by adding another win.
"Ueshima continues to impress us with his maturity in planning out match strategy and quickness around the court," added assistant coach
Andy Civello '97. "There are times you just can't get anything by him."Â
Jesuit has two matches remaining on the fall schedule, first a road bout against John Paul II at 4:15 p.m. on Thursday, October 20 before closing the first portion of the season against Coppell on Tuesday, November 15 at Hockaday.
