Jesuit's unbeaten mark on the 2016-17 season moved to 5-0 after a pair of wins this week, first an 8-3 triumph over Lake Highlands on September 20 followed by a dominant, 21-1 decision over Liberty Christian on September 22.
Battling Lake Highlands amidst a brutal late summer Dallas afternoon, the deep Jesuit squad once again scored a victory with a lineup permeated by underclassmen. Freshman doubles team
Diego Trejo and
Patrick Moore picked up a win at top-flight doubles.
"It's days like Tuesday when the younger players get a chance to play where you just know they're going to step up, give it their best effort, and rise to the occasion," commented Jesuit head coach
Paul McDaniel. Â
In singles play,
Cole Clement and Stuart Buchanan won their No. 3 doubles match.
Max Moundas,
Trey Ashmore and
Nico Cornejo added wins in the singles column.
"This one of those matches where the guys have to stay aware of their surroundings. Make sure they're hydrated, conserve their energy when they can," added assistant coach
Andy Civello '97. "The heat can sneak up on you so it's a battle against your opponent but also the weather."
In Thursday's bout, Jesuit featured a stacked doubles lineup, anchored by a 6-1, 6-1 top-flight win for senior
Hayden Kissee and junior
John Lindberg. Trejo and
Reid Staples picked up their second win of the week while
Joey Cistulli and
Kota Ueshima picked up another doubles victory for the Rangers. Ueshima added an 8-1 win in singles while Cornejo closed out the week with four total wins, securing two more decisions at singles on Thursday.
"I knew we would be a more skilled and deeper team," concluded McDaniel, "I really just wanted to get our top eight to 10 players in the same match."Â
Jesuit will next take on W.T. White on Tuesday, September 27 at 4:15 p.m.
