Tournament Most Valuable Player Luke Millican made 11 saves and senior Daniel Burnum scored the game-winning goal with 5:19 left in the fourth quarter, lifting Jesuit Dallas to its second consecutive Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Division I State Championship with an unprecedented, 9-8, comeback win over the Episcopal School of Dallas Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium.
 
After allowing five unanswered goals to start the first quarter, Episcopal School of Dallas looked poised to derail the Jesuit Dallas repeat bid in Sunday's Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) State Championship game. However, the Rangers came roaring back in the second half, out-scoring the Eagles, 8-2 in the second half to clinch the second title in program history. Burnum finished the contest with four goals, matching a career-high, scoring two of the Rangers' three fourth-quarter goals that put away the Eagles, who entered the contest undefeated with an 18-0 mark on the year.
 
Sophomore Peter Buell snapped the Jesuit Dallas scoreless stream with a tally midway through the second quarter, and was soon joined in the scoring column by junior Jack Tabor and senior Trey Weiderecht, who scored in the third. Junior Grayson Hassell scored a game-tying goal at the 9:39 mark of the fourth to complete the team's comeback run and set the stage for Burnum's heroics.
 
Burnum finished the tournament by earning Offensive Most Valuable Player honors. Junior Aidan Johnston secured four groundballs in the contest, earning Defensive Most Valuable Player plaudits. Senior Dixon Smith collected a team-high 10 groundballs, while Burnum added five groundballs to his Sunday stat line.
 
In the opening quarter, Episcopal dominated the pace of play, scoring five goals in the first quarter while holding Jesuit scoreless. Buell's second quarter goal sparked the Rangers, who responded by holding ESD to only one goal in the quarter and keeping the Eagles within striking distance heading into the halftime break.

Tabor struck four minutes into the third, followed closely behind by Burnum's first goal at the 5:49 mark. Off of the face off, ESD ran down the field and returned the lead to four goals, but Jesuit harnessed control of the game from that point forward. With the offense in sync, Jesuit scored three unanswered to close the quarter, the first two scored on one-timers from Burnum to Wiederecht and from Tabor to Jackson before Hovivian found Burnum on a fast break to send Jesuit into the fourth only trailing by one.

Hassell tied the game with a long-distance shot that sent the Jesuit fan base that made the four-hour drive into a frenzy. Burnum gave Jesuit it's first lead of the game two minutes later, putting the Rangers in position with 7:54 remaining in the fourth. However, Episcopal would not go quietly, knotting the game at 8-8 with a goal immediately off the ensuing faceoff. Two minutes eclipsed until Burnum worked his way through the Eagles' defense to slot home the go-ahead tally with 5:19 left, handing the reins to the defense to shut the door.

Over the final five minutes, Episcopal would pressure the Jesuit defense, but Millican and the Ranger contingent stood firm. Jesuit survived a scare in the waning moments of the fourth quarter, when a clear attempt was intercepted by an Episcopal attacker, who missed an empty net and the chance at the equalizer. Jesuit clinched the championship when a stick check by junior Greyson Mokarow resulted in a groundball secured by the Rangers, who were able to run the clock out for the victory.

Jesuit becomes the first back-to-back THSLL State Champion since Highland Park won three consecutive titles between 2008-2010, finishing the season with a 15-5 record.
