Jesuit Dallas tennis posted a convincing, 14-1 win over Richardson to open the regular season on Tuesday, August 29 at The Hockaday School. The Rangers swept their way through the doubles portion of the match to take a convincing, 5-0 lead before securing wins in nine of the 10 singles bouts.
Sophomores
Reid Staples and
Diego Trejo played at top-flight doubles, securing a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Richardson's Ramond Natale and Kevin Krishnan to kick-start the Rangers' 2017-18 tennis season. Last spring, Trejo and Staples captured the UIL District 9-6A junior varsity doubles championship, maintaining momentum in their first test of the new season.
Seniors
Nico Elizondo and
Christopher Reynders teamed up to take No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-4. Elizondo was one of three Rangers to earn a regional berth last spring after finishing second at the district championship tournament, while Reynders impressed in his return to action after missing the 2016-17 season due to injury.
Juniors
Cole Clement and
Kota Ueshima won their third-flight doubles match, 6-0, 6-3, sophomore
Trey Ashmore and senior
Marcelo Pier staged a frantic comeback after dropping the first set of fourth doubles, dominating the tiebreaker to take the win, 4-6, 6-1 (10-3). Senior
Nico Cornejo joined sophomore
Stewart Buchanan in the final doubles match of the afternoon, splitting the first two sets before edging Richardson in a 6-0, 3-6 (10-7) decision.
Staples added an 8-2 win at top-flight singles to begin the Rangers' second stanza of play, followed by identical, 8-3 wins by Trejo and Elizondo. Ueshima captured an 8-4 win at fifth-flight singles before wins by Pier (8-6), Ashmore (8-0) and junior
Cole Clement (8-1) concluded Jesuit's dominating outing.
The Rangers will return to the court on Tuesday, September 5, when they travel to the Samuel Grand Tennis Center to take on UIL District 9-6A foe Skyline at 4:30 p.m.
