After a pair of victories against UIL District 9-6A foes, the Jesuit Dallas tennis program scored an 8-1 victory over the Grapevine Mustangs, a district favorite and one of the top 5A programs in the Metroplex, on Friday evening.
 
Jesuit jumpstarted the afternoon with a dominant sweep of doubles play, sparked by a 6-0, 6-0 top-flight doubles victory for sophomores Reid Staples and Diego Trejo. Freshman Matthew Cole and Max Platt kept the momentum intact, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at second doubles before the duo of seniors Nico Elizondo and Christopher Reynders capped the doubles sweep with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at third-flight.
 
"I was really looking forward to seeing Max Platt & Matthew Cole in action for the first time this year and they didn't let me down," commented Jesuit Dallas head tennis coach Paul McDaniel. "Both really looked poised and strong." 
 
In singles play, Staples led off the Rangers with a 6-0, 6-0, top-flight sweep. Elizondo added a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at No. 5 singles to anchor a Jesuit effort that won five of six singles matches. Trejo picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory at second-flight, followed by a 6-1, 6-2 triumph at No. 3 singles by Cole and a 6-0, 6-1, fourth-flight win from Platt.
 
"Reid Staples and Diego Trejo dominated both of their doubles and singles matches," commented assistant tennis coach Andy Civello '97. "This is the 2nd year they have played doubles together and they just really complement each other.  It seems at times they are reading each other's thoughts.  They are very tough to play against." 
 
The Rangers will aim to continue their unbeaten start to the season on Thursday, Sep. 14 when they travel to Richardson, Texas to battle district opponent J.J. Pearce at 4:30 p.m.
