Rangers Rout Eagles to Advance in THSLL Playoffs

Jesuit Dallas lacrosse erupted for nine unanswered goals in the second quarter to secure a 16-6 win over Allen in the first round of the Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Playoffs on Monday evening at Postell Stadium. The Rangers were anchored by a six-goal effort from senior David Sprock and advance to the regional tournament, set for Saturday at 2 p.m. against Austin H.S. in Murphy, Texas.
 
Sprock finished with six goals and two assists for eight total points, leading the charge for a Jesuit Dallas team that saw five student-athletes reach the scoring column. Senior Grayson Hassell scored four goals with an assist while junior Jacob Jackson ripped the twine three times to wrap the trio of Rangers that secured hat tricks. Freshman Sam Teachout scored two goals while junior Matthew Priddy scored a transition goal for the Rangers. Junior Tommy Hovivian logged four assists to lead the team.
 
Junior goalkeeper William Moran made 11 saves to pick up the win as freshman Rob Williamson made a pair of saves in the fourth quarter. The goalkeeping tandem anchored a relentless defense, as the senior trio of Hank Clements, Aidan Johnston and Marshall Rodegast caused three turnovers apiece while junior Drew Martin caused two turnovers and senior Greyson Mokarow caused one turnover.
 
How it Happened
 
  • The two teams settled to a stalemate in the first quarter as Jesuit Dallas went 6-of-8 in clear attempts compared to a 5-of-7 clip from Allen. The Eagles fired four shots on goal but broke through with 1:09 remaining in the first to take a 1-0 lead heading into the second quarter.
     
  • Hassell scored 1:49 into the second quarter to tie the contest to jump-start the dominant quarter for Jesuit Dallas. Teachout followed Hassell with his first goal of the game before Hassell added his second goal on a pass from Sprock. Unassisted goals by Jackson and Teachout improved the lead to 5-1 before Sprock tallied a hat trick with three goals within a two-minute span to increase the lead to seven. Jackson capped the quarter with his second goal of the game with 46 seconds remaining to send Jesuit Dallas into halftime with a 9-1 lead.
     
  • In the third quarter, Allen scored the first goal before Jesuit Dallas scored two unanswered goals by Hassell to build the lead to nine goals. Both teams scored five goals in the third quarter to maintain the Jesuit Dallas lead at eight goals before game-ending goals from Hassell and Sprock wrapped a dominant showing by the Blue and Gold.

  • Jesuit Dallas went 31-of-35 in clear attempts, securing 33 ground balls compared to 20 ground balls snagged by Allen. Junior Will Piot joined freshman Henry Suarez and Mason Chandler as a trio of faceoff specialists who combined to go 15-of-23 from the "x" en route to the win.

Jesuit Dallas will advance to battle Austin H.S. on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the right to advance to a super-regional matchup against The Woodlands. The Maroons enter Saturday's matchup with a 12-1 record after upending Vandergrift, 14-10 in the team's regular season finale on April 25.
