Second Half Comeback Pushes Rangers Past Reigning State Champions

After falling behind, 3-1 in the first quarter, Jesuit Dallas lacrosse used a 6-2 scoring run in the second half to upend reigning Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) Division I State Champion The Woodlands, 8-7, on Feb. 9. Senior Jacob Jackson led the charge with a four-goal outing as Jesuit held off a late push from the Highlanders to move to 2-0 on the season.
 
Jackson's four-goal outing combined with his hat trick against Allen on Feb. 1 pushed the Michigan commit's scoring total on the year to seven goals on the young season. Fellow future Wolverine Matthew Priddy added three goals of his own, adding five ground balls. Junior Tommy Hovivian tallied the Rangers' final goal of the game, additionally logging a team-high three assists.
 
Junior Jack Selner recorded a team-leading six groundballs, additionally posting two turnovers to match Hovivian and junior Drew Martin. Sophomore Henry Suarez posted a 10-for-19 clip at the faceoff "x" while senior William Moran racked up 12 saves.
 
The Woodlands scored three unanswered goals to kickstart the contest before Jackson ripped a shot past the Highlander netminder to snap the scoreless streak and cutting the Woodlands' lead to two goals to close the opening quarter. The two teams traded goals in the second quarter as Priddy found the net twice to send the contest into halftime with The Woodlands holding a 5-3 lead.
 
Jackson scored an unassisted goal in the opening moments of the third quarter to cut the lead to a single goal. After The Woodlands scored to return the lead to two goals, Jesuit erupted for a four-goal run which gave the Blue and Gold control of the game. Hovivian scored with 5:56 remaining in the third, Priddy followed with his third goal of the game a minute later and Jackson scored at the 2:43 mark of the third and the 10:36 mark of the fourth to give the Rangers an 8-6 advantage.
 
Jesuit's defense locked down on the Highlanders in the fourth, holding The Woodlands to only six shots and securing seven ground balls compared to two from the Highlanders to keep The Woodlands away from the equalizing goal down the stretch. The Woodlands would score with 3:35 remaining in regulation, but Jesuit would keep the Highlanders away from Moran in the waning moments to clinch the win.
 
The Rangers will return to action on Friday, Feb. 15, when the Blue and Gold will travel south on Interstate-35 for a weekend double-header against Austin H.S. and Lake Travis. Jesuit will open the weekend at 8:15 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 15 against Austin before battling Lake Travis on Feb. 16 at 5 p.m.
