Jesuit Dallas dropped a 2-1 decision to Frisco West on Thursday at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in McKinney, but showed a drastic improvement in play following a multi-goal setback in the leveling tournament the previous week. Behind a strong defensive presence and a late push, new head coach
Nick Hinkley and the Rangers will look to harness the momentum gained as the 2021-22 regular season begins to pick up.
Sophomore
Andrew Zang withstood a flurry from the Frisco West offense, turning aside 27 of 29 shots, including 11 saves in the second and third periods. Junior
Kyle Hogan scored the team's first goal of the season, a tally assisted by senior
Charlie Cohen. With 4:22 left in the third period and the Rangers trailing by two, Cohen passed from center ice to the right wing, where Hogan lifted a rising wrist shot over the stick side of the Frisco West netminder and into the twine. Jesuit made a push at the end of the game, sending seven shots on target in the third period and pulling the goalie in the final minute, but Frisco West was able to escape with the season-opening win.
Jesuit will return to the ice on Thursday, Sept. 30 when the Blue and Gold takes on Keller at the Euless StarCenter. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
