Jesuit Posts Three Wins at Home Tournament, Arra Erupts on Final Day of Competition

The Rangers pieced together another strong week of non-district tournament competition, racking up a trio of wins, including a victory over district rival Highland Park, to finish 3-2 in the Scots-Rangers Invitational, hosted on Friday and Saturday at the David A. Segal Family Aquatic Center.
 
Jesuit opened the tournament with a 13-6 loss to Richmond Foster H.S. Senior Dominic Arra led the charge with two goals while additional tallies were scored by senior Teddy Scherer, junior Flyn Hughes, sophomore Jack Stevens and freshman Charlie Gall. Senior Mack Frary made four saves in the contest.
 
The Rangers rebounded with a 12-11 win over Hebron, upending their former district rivals in comeback fashion with a five-goal fourth quarter. Gall scored four goals for the Blue and Gold, including the game-winner in the final seconds of regulation. Arra added four goals of his own, while seniors Jack Schwetz and Teddy Scherer scored two goals apiece. Frary closed out the game with eight saves, and senior Ben Eppich tacked on a blocked shot to help aid the Rangers to the one-goal win.
 
Friday concluded with a 14-10 loss to Strake Jesuit. Gall once again led the way with four goals, followed by two goals apiece from Arra, Scherer, and senior Cole Kostos, and Frary made 12 saves against the Crusaders.
 
Jesuit Dallas returned to the win column on Saturday morning with a 13-9 win over Pearland Dawson. Arra erupted for a season-high seven touchdowns, adding two assists for a nine-point game. Arra and Scherer tied for the team lead with five points apiece; Gall picked up a goal with a team-high four assists while Scherer notched his third hat trick of the season, scoring three goals and picking up two assists. The Rangers finished the tournament with a 13-12 win over Highland Park, powered by another stellar goal-scoring performance from Arra, who scored six goals in the win. Schwetz scored three goals, and Scherer and Gall wrapped the weekend with two goals apiece.
 
The Rangers will return to the pool on Wednesday, Aug. 30 for their final district warm-up, when the Blue and Gold welcome St. Mark's to The Gull. District play is set to start on Tuesday, Sept. 5 when the Rangers welcome Prosper for a 7:15 p.m. first sprint. Wednesday's non-district matchup between the Rangers and Lions scheduled for a 6:45 p.m. start.
