Jesuit Dallas Cycling Battles Elite Competition at Lago Vista Road Race

3/6/2025 6:11:00 PM

Jesuit's cycling team returned to action over the weekend, competing at the 2025 Lago Vista Road Race in Austin, Texas. The Blue and Gold competed against a stacked field as the team's young core gathered critical experience as the 2025 season begins to shift into full gear.

The race consisted of three races ran over a three-day span. On Friday, February 28, Jesuit competed in the elite juniors division, which featured several competitors who had participated in the junior world championships in 2024. Freshman Nicholas Carter led the way for Jesuit in the junior 15-16 division with a 15:49.31, followed by a 20:07.42 from sophomore Reid Starnes. Senior Andrew Wilkes competed in the junior 17-18 division, clocking an 18:15.44, followed by an 18:17.73 from senior Max DeGroote.

Saturday's race challenged the participants with a 32-mile race that featured numerous hills. Carter placed 13th overall, finishing only 46 seconds behind the lead pack, while Wilkes and DeGroote placed 21st and 24th, respectively. Carter would once again lead the charge in Jesuit's final race of the weekend, another 32-mile race run in the opposite direction of Saturday's competition. The freshman posted a seventh place finish in the Sunday finale, hanging with the lead pack for a majority of the event. Wilkes, DeGroote and Starnes finished up the weekend finishing 17th, 27thand 28th, respectively.
