AUSTIN, Texas - Jesuit Dallas sophomore Nicholas Carter crossed the finish line first to become the U17 Texas Crit State Championship at Onion Creek on Sunday.

Racing in the 15-16 year old division, Carter outpaced the 25-person field in a mad sprint to the finish line. By the halfway point of the 25-minute race, Carter was among a group of four riders from an Austin club that had pulled ahead of the peloton. Despite being out-manned 4-to-1, the Ranger raced a smart race and was able to beat them handily in the sprint when he caught them by surprise starting his sprint early and being able to hold it to the line.
