Andrew Armstrong '01

Andrew Armstrong is literally the father of Jesuit cycling. Starting the Jesuit cycling club following a student request in 2005, Armstrong led the Rangers to the 2014 Texas High School Cycling League State Road Championships in the program’s first year as a sanctioned varsity sport. The team won the season-long boy's team overall championship as well as scoring enough points to secure the coed combined team overall championship.

Armstrong founded the Texas High School Cycling League in Oct. 2006, six months after orchestrating Jesuit’s first hosted race and the first scholastic race in the state of Texas. A former member of USA Cycling’s collegiate board of trustees (2009-11), Armstrong often presents at scholastic cycling and coaching summits.

Armstrong has served as a member of the theology faculty at Jesuit since graduating from Boston College in 2005. He was a four-year member of the Eagles’ club cycling team and competed in the 2005 Collegiate Road Cycling National Championships in the road race and criterium.

Armstrong graduated from Jesuit Dallas in 2001. He was a two-year member of the varsity football team, where he was part of the Rangers’ 1999 TCIL championship. He also played on the 2001 rugby state championship team.

During his time as a member of the faculty, he took a two-year leave from Jesuit to pursue racing full-time while competing in the many of the top pro-am races. His best result included two fourth-place finishes at the 2008 Track Cycling National Championships. He still competes locally on the road and nationally on the track velodrome.

Armstrong and his wife, Celeste DesOrmeaux, who is a fellow teacher at Jesuit and assistant cycling coach, reside in Dallas.
