Austin Smith

Smith will enter his first season at the helm of the five-time state champion Jesuit Dallas hockey program in the 2019-20 season. Throughout an eight-year professional career, Smith has played over 250 games across five leagues, racking up 127 goals during that span. After being selected with the 128th pick of the 2007 NHL Draft, Smith signed a two-year, entry-level contract with the Stars and spent time with the Texas Stars (AHL) and Idaho Steelheads (ECHL), finishing the 2012-13 season as the leading scorer for the Steelheads with 27 goals and 23 assists over 38 games. 
 
Smith's journey began at Jesuit Dallas, where he was a member of the hockey program for two years and led the Rangers in scoring during the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons before leaving for The Gunnery Preparatory School in Washington, Connecticut and the Penticton Vees of the British Collumbia Hockey League. Smith was a two-time Team MVP at The Gunnery before winning a league championship and securing the scoring title for the Vees in 2008. 
 
Smith added 59 goals over 69 games and two seasons with the Ravensburg Towerstars of the DEL2 League in Germany, earning the Best Goal Scorer award in 2016. Over the past three years, Smith has competed with Erste Bank Eishockey Ligua of the Austrian Hockey League, capturing the team scoring title with Hockey Club Innsbruck during the 2016-17 season before winning the league championship with Hockey Club Bolzano in 2018.
 
A 2012 graduate of Colgate University, Smith concluded a stellar collegiate hockey career with a nationally-recognized senior season. Smith earned Player of the Year honors from the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) and College Hockey Newsalongside being named an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) East First-Team All-American and one of three finalists for the prestigious Hobey Baker Award, college hockey's equivalent of the Heisman Trophy. 
 
During his senior season, Smith scored 36 goals during 39 games, ranking fifth in Colgate history, while finishing the year as the 10th-highest scorer in Raider history with 57 points. That season, Smith captured the national statistical title in goals per game (0.92) while also leading the nation with six short-handed goals. Smith currently ranks 15th in Colgate program history with 160 career points and eighth in program history with 79 career goals. Smith graduated from Colgate with a bachelor of arts in sociology and a minor in theatre. He is currently an associate sales representative with Stryker Sports Medicine.
