Rain-Soaked Rangers Shut Out Longhorns

Hoping to keep an unprecedented shutout streak alive, the Jesuit Dallas Rangers battled a torrential downpour and, with assistance by three rushing touchdowns by junior Jacob Palisch, scored their third consecutive clean sheet, 43-0, in the annual Battle for the Saddle against W.T. White on Friday evening at Postell Stadium.

A slew of Ranger faithful waited out the storms that have plagued both travel and game conditions throughout North Dallas on Friday to watch Jesuit Dallas extend its shutout streak to 156 minutes and 15 seconds.  The Rangers have not allowed an opponent to score since a Skyline passing touchdown with 15 seconds remaining in the third quarter of the team's historic win over the then-No. 10 Raiders on Oct. 2.  Jesuit Dallas' win on Friday is the squad's fifth shutout of the season, anchored by a Ranger defense that held the Longhorns to 195 yards of total offense, including 78 yards.  Jesuit's offense racked up an impressive 418 yards of total offense, including 304 yards and five touchdowns on the ground.

Palisch finished the day with four total touchdowns, three rushing and one passing, to close out the contest with 146 total yards of offense.  The junior's three rushing touchdowns are the most in a single game since Matt Slovak '15 achieved the mark against Irving on Oct. 10, 2014.

Senior Adam Holtz continued his hot streak, carrying the ball 17 times for 135 yards while senior Max Loughborough and junior Evan Jackson each scored a rushing touchdown.  Additionally, junior John Wunderlick nabbed his second receiving touchdown on the year.

Jesuit Dallas forced three W.T. White turnovers, including an interception by senior John Michael Priddy that complimented a pair of fumble recoveries.  Priddy closed out the contest with a game-high eight tackles, tying classmates Peyton Long and Dane Bender for a team-leading four solo stops.  Long added a forced fumble while senior Ryan Brooks logged a pair of tackles for loss.

The Rangers were only able to run four plays before the first lightning delay of the evening took place around 8 p.m.  A near 80-minute delay ensued before play resumed at 9:14 p.m.  A different Jesuit squad took the field after the delay, inspired and determined, making a major splash instantly.  After punting the ball and forcing the Longhorns to start their drive inside their own 10-yard line, the Rangers forced a safety after senior Jordan Rice and Priddy tackled W.T. White runningback Daniel Joof inside the end zone.

With points on the board, the Jesuit Dallas offense ran four plays on the ensuing drive for 48 yards, capped by a 10-yard rush by Palisch that gave the home team a 9-0 lead.  After recovering the next kickoff, Palisch found Wunderlick on a fade route, throwing a loft pass that just stayed inside the pylon that resulted in the squad's second touchdown of the evening.  Including the safety, the Rangers jumped out to 16-0 lead within 1:23 of game time, scoring their next touchdown with 39 seconds remaining in the first after a Palisch rush closed a 10-play, 56-yard drive that was sparked by the Rangers' first fumble recovery of the evening.

Following Priddy's interception, Jesuit Dallas scored its only touchdown of the second quarter with 10 seconds remaining in the half on a six yard rush by Palisch.  In the third quarter, the Rangers' shutout streak looked to be in danger as W.T. White drove the ball to the one-yard line, but Jesuit Dallas recovered a Longhorns fumble at the goal line to keep the clean sheet intact.

Over the next 2:13, the Rangers would embark upon an eight-play, 84-yard drive that resulted in a Loughborough rushing touchdown.  Jackson would find paydirt in the fourth quarter after an impressive, 11-play march downfield that eclipsed over five minutes.

Jesuit Dallas will next return to Irving Schools Stadium for the third time this season to battle MacArthur at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 30 before returning to Postell Stadium the following week for the final regular season contest against R.L. Turner.
