Another dominating effort by the Jesuit Dallas football squad resulted in the Rangers' fourth consecutive win and third shutout of the 2015 season, blanking the Irving Tigers, 50-0, on Friday evening at Irving Schools Stadium.
The Ranger defense provided the spark again, holding the Tigers to 50 yards of total offense, including a smothering run defense that limited Irving to only 33 net yards. Senior
John Michael Priddy snagged an interception while
Jack Metz secured an Irving fumble, putting the Rangers in scoring position after each Tiger turnover. Seniors
Nate Thompson and
Peyton Long recorded five tackles each, with Long logging three solo stops and two tackles for loss, including a sack. Senior
Ryan Brooks scored a team-high three tackles for loss for 14 yards.
After punting on their opening drive, the Rangers (5-1, 3-1 UIL 9-6A) scored on eight consecutive drives en route to the victory. Jesuit Dallas finished the contest with 391 total yards, including a convincing 248 yards and five touchdowns on the ground. Senior
Adam Holtz found the end zone twice, finishing with 44 net yards, while sophomore
Evan Jackson additionally found the end zone once while gaining a team-high 72 yards. Junior quarterback
Jacob Palisch collected 54 yards and a touchdown on the ground while passing for 143 yards and a pair of scores, one to senior
Max Loughborough and the other to fourth year
Rusty Landon.
A 13-yard sack by Metz led to an opening drive by Irving that ended with a three-and-out for -13 yards, setting the tone for the Blue and Gold to open the scoring on their second drive of the evening. Palisch led the Rangers on an 11-play, 60-yard drive punctuated by a four-yard rush by Holtz, sending the Rangers to a 7-0 lead with just under five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Metz made his presence known again on Irving's next drive, recovering a Tigers fumble, which after an Irving personal foul gave the Rangers the ball on the Irving 20-yard line with 2:28 on the first quarter clock. Facing a third and nine on the 19-yard line, Palisch found Loughborough on a post route, allowing the senior to thread the needle and shake off Irving defenders on his way to the end zone. Loughborough's second touchdown reception of the season increased the Ranger lead to 13-0 heading into the second stanza.
A 17-yard pass from Palisch to Lanpher on third-and-12 set the stage for a 26-yard field goal by senior
John Wengierski. Following a short punt by Irving, Palisch aired the ball downfield, finding Landon in stride for a 28-yard touchdown with 6:06 remaining in the half. Palisch closed the first half scoring with an acrobatic play, racing into the right side of the end zone and flipping over a defender into the end zone with 40 seconds remaining in the half, sending the Blue and Gold into the break with a 29-0 advantage.
The Priddy pick with 9:59 remaining in the third set up a 10-yard touchdown run by Holtz on the following play. A quick three-and-out by Irving was answered by a six-play, 47-yard drive capped by a five yard touchdown run by Landon, as the Rangers would score their final points of the evening on a 13-yard rush by Jackson.
Jesuit Dallas will return to Irving Schools Stadium on Friday, Oct. 16 to battle Nimitz at 7:30 p.m., returning to Postell Stadium on Friday, Oct. 23 for the annual "Battle for the Saddle" against W.T. White.
