The Jesuit Dallas hockey squad shook off an early setback in the season debut, notching three unanswered goals en route to a 3-2 win over Plano West on Thursday evening at Richardson Arena.
Louis Helsen IV notched the eventual game-winner and added an assist on the Rangers' first goal of the game to lead the squad, as
Preston Schwartz and
Nicholas Colombo added tallies for the Blue and Gold. Jesuit Dallas narrowly outshot the Wolves, 36-34, but goalie
Royce Allred was able to make the three goals stand, making 32 saves during his second outing of the season.
Despite firing 14 shots towards the Plano West cage, the two teams played to a 0-0 stalemate after one period after Allred turned aside 13 first period shots by the Wolves. Schwartz tallied his first goal of the season 4:03 into the second period, opening the scoring and giving the Rangers the early lead. Colombo found twine with 4:01 left in the second stanza on a pass by
Michael Schmidt, spotting Jesuit Dallas a 2-0 advantage headed into the second intermission.
Helsen's goal came with 2:31 eclipsed in the third period, but the Wolves offense locked down on the Rangers late, only allowing four shots on goal, while a pair of tallies by Plano West over the next three minutes rested the game on the shoulders of Allred and the Ranger defense. Jesuit Dallas held on en route to their first win of the 2015-16 campaign.
Jesuit Dallas will next compete against the conjoined team of Plano East and Lovejoy at Richardson Arena on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8:45 p.m.
