Jesuit Hockey Wins City Championship

Jesuit completed the high school hockey version of the Texas two-step Thursday night by winning the AT&T Metroplex High School Hockey League Championship with a 2-0 victory over Frisco. The title comes less than a month after Jesuit won the Texas Amateur Hockey Association Championship and further augments the Rangers' already-impressive resume.  After a 17-game winning streak to finish the season and after winning both league championships, Jesuit left no doubt to their claim as the top high school hockey team in Texas.

Thursday's game was a defensive affair, highlighted by goalkeeper George McBey, who turned away 23 shots on goal and registered his fifth shutout of the season. Little brother Alexander McBey scored both Ranger goals in the game, the first coming off a rebound in the final minute of the first period.  An action-packed second period saw five penalties and over a dozen shots, but neither team could capitalize on the power play and the Rangers entered the third leading 1-0.  With 6:14 left to play, after the Jesuit defense had turned away every Frisco attempt, Anthony Calabrese marched into the corner and dished a centering feed to Alexander McBey, who put the puck in the back of the net and gave the Rangers a 2-0 lead.

Frisco outshot Jesuit 23 to 14 on the evening, but the Ranger defense let nothing past McBey. On offense Jesuit made their shots count, beating a Frisco team who had posted two consecutive shutouts.

After winning both the State and City trophies, Jesuit will represent Texas in the USA Hockey National Championships.  The tournament takes place March 19-23 in St. Louis, Missouri, and you can follow the action live on the team's brand new twitter account: @JesuitCPHockey.
