Andrew Ngov scored two goals, including a power-play tally with 4:38 remaining in the second period to help Jesuit snap a five-game skid, 3-2, against McKinney on Thursday, December 8 at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Richardson.
Â
Ngov moved his goal total on the year to six with his performance against the Lions, while
Preston Schwartz added his second of the year late in the first period. Schwartz tied Ngov for a team-leading two points, recording an assist on Ngov's first goal midway through the second, while
Christopher Black added his fourth helper of the season on Schwartz's tally.
Â
Jesuit netminder
Royce Allred made 34 saves, withstanding four McKinney power plays. The Lions out shot the Rangers (3-7), 36-27, but two second-period goals by the Blue and Gold provided the difference in the contest.
Â
McKinney placed 14 shots on target in the first, but Allred stood tall, providing the opening for Schwartz to log the Rangers' first goal with 4:14 left in the stanza. With 8:41 on the second period clock, Schwartz found Ngov to increase the Jesuit lead to 2-0.
Â
The Lions scored an even-strength goal a minute after Ngov's first tally, but Ngov returned the favor at the 4:38 mark on the power play to return the lead to two goals. A McKinney goal in the final second of the second period reduced the Jesuit advantage to one, but 14 saves in the third period by Allred pushed Jesuit to the victory.
Â
The Rangers will compete for the final time in 2016 on Thursday, December 15, when Jesuit takes on Plano West at 8:15 p.m. at the Plano StarCenter.
