The Ranger lacrosse squad, ranked No. 1 in the state in the most recent
LaxPower.com Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) computer rankings, posted a historic week, earning the first shutout since 2012 with a 10-0 win over Allen on Thursday before a convincing, 15-2 triumph over St. John's on Saturday to remain unbeaten on the year.
Senior
Jack Freeman finished the week with five total goals, including a season-high four tallies against Allen. Â
Daniel Burnum and
Reece Ellison each finished the game with a goal and assist while
David Sprock,
John Michael Priddy,
Garrett Munck and
Grayson Hassell also found twine. Munck scored a hat trick against St. John's, while Burnum posted two goals and two assists, tying Sprock, who scored a goal and added three assists, with a team-leading four points. Senior
Blake Buell recorded a pair of goals, while
Jacob Jackson,
Dixon Smith,
Matthew Favre, Priddy, Freeman, Hassell and Brogan Neagle found the back of the net.
Priddy secured 15 ground balls over the two games, while the Rangers won the faceoff battle against the Mavericks, 18-2, while converting 13-of-16 clear attempts against St. John's after going 22-of-23 in clears against Allen.
Jesuit Dallas (6-0) opened the contest with four first quarter goals, two of which were scored by Freeman. The lead increased to seven at halftime with second quarter tallies by Sprock, Munck and Freeman. The senior added his fourth goal of the contest in the third quarter before Burnum and Hassell recorded fourth quarter goals to close out the Rangers' scoring. The Rangers recorded their first shutout since a 6-0 win over Strake Jesuit on Feb. 10, 2012.
Against St. John's, Buell took the opening faceoff downfield and found twine to give the Blue and Gold an early, 1-0 advantage. Freeman, Smith, Burnum, Munck and Favre also scored in the opening stanza, spotting the home squad a dominant, 6-0 lead headed into the second quarter. Down the stretch of Saturday's bout, nine different goal scorers found twine in a 9-2, game-closing run for the Rangers, capped by Neagle's goal with 3:11 remaining in the fourth.
The Rangers will battle Plano West at Clark Stadium on Thursday, Mar. 3 in their final warm-up before a spring training trip to Brophy, Arizona. Jesuit Dallas will battle Gonzaga from Washington, D.C. at 6 p.m. on Mar. 18 before taking on hosting Brophy on Mar. 19.
