Ethan Moore broke a scoreless tie in the second half, but three unanswered goals, including two in the second overtime session, sent the No. 15-ranked North Mesquite Stallions past the fifth-ranked Jesuit Dallas Rangers in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Soccer State Championship Regional Quarterfinal round on Tuesday evening at Homer B. Johnson Stadium.
Moore's fifth goal of the season found the back of the net in the 58th minute, spotting the Rangers (16-3-5) a one-goal lead headed into the final 22 minutes of regulation. A North Mesquite free kick turned into a turnover when junior

Liam Finn, who slotted a ball towards a streaking Moore.Â
The junior, with a clear and un path to the net, rocketed a shot that went off the glove of the North Mesquite goalkeeper and into the net to send the Ranger faithful into a frenzy.

Luke Ostrander made five saves, including two in the second half and two in the second overtime period, while the Rangers totaled nine shots, including three attempts in the opening half. The Rangers' first opportunity developed in the 16th minute, when Moore had a shot blocked, procuring a corner opportunity for Jesuit. Senior

Nathan Escanuela put a charge into a ball in the 25th minute, but it sailed high and out of danger. Ostrander made his first save in the 29th minute and stopped a corner attempt in the 30th to send the two teams into the halftime break scoreless.
Sophomore
Christian Lerma launched a shot in the 47th minute, opening the second half offense for the Rangers to maintain the squad's momentum in the early portion in the second half, momentum that resulted in Moore's goal. In the 69th minute, North Mesquite earned a penalty kick, an attempt that was stopped by Ostrander, but were awarded a second penalty.Â

Patrick Howell was saved by North Mesquite's Jean DeLeon, sending the two teams into overtime tied, 1-1.
In the first overtime session, the Rangers procured three corner kick chances but were unable to get the ball past the reinvigorated Stallion defense. North Mesquite controlled the pace in the second overtime, placing a header on-target in the 92nd minute that was saved by Ostrander before a corner kick was sent into the back of the net on the far side, giving the Stallions the lead. North Mesquite added an insurance goal with three seconds remaining to end the Rangers' season.
Jesuit Dallas, who entered the week ranked No. 5 in the state according to
TopDrawerSoccer.com, won its second consecutive UIL District 9-6A championship and third in the last seven seasons, finishing the district season unbeaten with a 10-0-4 record.
