Moore Scores Twice, Rangers Gallop Past Mustangs

A two-goal outing by senior Ethan Moore and several late defensive stops kept the Jesuit Dallas soccer squad unbeaten in University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A play, helping the Rangers upend J.J. Pearce, 2-1, on Friday night at Postell Stadium.

Moore, who committed to Trinity University earlier this week, has scored at least one goal in three consecutive games, becoming the second Ranger this season to score multiple goals in a game. The senior, who has tallied five goals this season, currently ranks second in goals behind junior Christian Lerma, and is tied for second in total scoring alongside classmate Chase Burciaga.

Burciaga and senior Tommy Flaim notched assists for the Rangers (6-2-1, 3-0-1 UIL 9-6A), who have won three consecutive matches and are unbeaten since Jan. 13. Junior Joseph Banul scored the victory in net, while senior Luke Ostrander made three first half saves. The Jesuit defense withstood eight shots from J.J. Pearce, highlighted by a defensive save by senior James LaRoe with 1:18 remaining in regulation.

J.J. Pearce (2-2-0 UIL 9-6A) pushed the pace early, sending a pair of shots towards the net. Ostrander made a save eight minutes into the first half to set the tone for the Rangers defensively. Jesuit forged a corner kick attempt with 32:20 left in the opening stanza, an attempt taken by Burciaga that was deflected in by Moore to open the scoring.

Ostrander stood tall again on J.J. Pearce's first corner kick, moving off the line to snag the loose ball and keep Jesuit's lead intact, following that strong defensive play with two more saves down the stretch of the first. The Mustangs scored with 39 seconds remaining to send the contest into halftime tied, 1-1.

Jesuit came out of the break firing on all cylinders, sending three shots towards the Mustangs' goalkeeper within the first 12 minutes. Moore struck again at the 17:07 mark, putting home another corner kick, sent in by Flaim, with a header towards the far post. LaRoe's clearance in the waning moments secured the win for Jesuit.

The Rangers will next travel to Wildcat-Ram Stadium to battle Lake Highlands on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at 7:30 p.m. before battling W.T. White at Loos Stadium in Addison, Texas on Friday, Feb. 10.
