Lacrosse Derails Comeback Attempt to Continue Win Streak

Sophomore David Sprock kept an unprecedented scoring run intact, scoring four times to help Jesuit Dallas win its fifth straight with a 7-5 victory against St. Mark's on April 13 in Dallas, Texas.

Sprock scored a hat trick in the third, blossoming a one-goal halftime lead to a five-goal advantage with 4:38 remaining in the quarter. Senior Daniel Burnum, junior Grayson Hassell and sophomore Peter Buell added the other three goals for Jesuit Dallas (10-3), while Burnum, senior Trey Wiederecht and sophomore Tommy Hovivian added assists.

Junior Jack Tabor snagged four ground balls, and senior goalkeeper Luke Millican made 13 saves in cage to help Jesuit regain momentum heading into the homestretch of the 2017 season. The Jesuit defense disrupted the Lions (7-7), forcing eight failed clear attempts.

St. Mark's opened the scoring with a tally midway through the first quarter before an unassisted Sprock goal sent the contest into the second quarter tied, 1-1. Burnum scored the only goal for either team in the second to propel Jesuit to a 2-1 halftime lead.

Sprock opened the third quarter scoring with a goal at the 8:29 mark, and a tally by Hassell propelled the Jesuit lead to three goals. Sprock returned to the goal column, finding twine at the 7:06 and 4:38 marks to spark the Rangers into a five-goal advantage.

The Lions scored three unanswered, slicing Jesuit's lead to two goals. St. Mark's used momentum from a goal with five seconds remaining in the third, adding two in the fourth. However, Buell snuffed the Lions' rally with a late fourth quarter goal, helping Jesuit secure the win.

Jesuit will next welcome Highland Park to Postell Stadium on Friday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. in a rematch of the 2016 Texas High School Lacrosse League (THSLL) State Championship game before closing the regular season on the road against Episcopal School of Dallas on April 28.
