Game Recap: Baseball - Varsity |

Regular-Season Sweep Sparked by Ranger Senior Class

The Jesuit Dallas baseball squad closed the regular season with a two-game sweep of Berkner, capturing a 3-0 win over the Rams on Tuesday evening before a 10-0 win ended the regular season on Friday evening in Richardson, Texas.

On Tuesday, the Rangers scraped by the Rams with three runs on seven hits, while the senior pitching tandem of Wyatt Hasson and Heath Vankirk kept Berkner off the scoreboard. Hasson threw four innings of shutout work, striking out four. Vankirk earned a three-inning save, his first of the season, throwing three innings and striking out three batters. Offensively, Jesuit saw runs driven in by seniors John Guzman, Michael Schoettmer and sophomore Garrett Reuben, who added a double to the Rangers' effort.

Friday saw the Jesuit bats come alive, scoring 10 runs on 12 hits. Senior Mark Ready joined sophomores Jaden Woodson, Julian Colombo and Reuben as Ranger hitters that collected multi-hit games, anchored by Ready and Colombo, who racked up a pair of doubles each. Colombo added a team-high three RBI, followed by Ready and junior Bijan Kamalipour, who drove in two runs apiece.

Senior center fielder Alex Lengyel was 1-for-2 with a double and a run scored, and senior Jacob Palisch entered the game in the seventh, sending a sharp single up the middle in his lone at bat of the season before scoring the team's seventh run. Junior Tyler Murrah controlled the pace on the rubber, allowing only two hits during a complete game shutout, striking out seven batters to end the regular season with a 6-0 record.

Jesuit Dallas will next advance to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) 6A Baseball Tournament, where the Blue and Gold will meet the Sachse Mustangs out of district 10-6A in the first round. The opening game of the three-game series will take place at Sachse High School on Wednesday, May 4 at 7 p.m. before game two comes to Wright Field for a 7 p.m. first pitch on Friday, May 5.
