Despite several highlight-reel touchdowns, 35 unanswered points in the first half by the Coppell Cowboys sent Jesuit Dallas to a 56-34 setback in the University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A opener for both teams on Friday evening at Buddy Echols Field.
Jesuit Dallas (0-4, 0-1 UIL 9-6A) out-scored the Cowboys (3-1, 1-0 UIL 9-6A), 27-20 in the second half, but the impressive first half salvo by the No. 8 team in the Metroplex according to the
Dallas Morning News proved too much to overcome for the Blue and Gold.

Â
How it Happened
Â
- After Coppell scored on the fourth play from scrimmage, Jesuit Dallas struck back with a 75-yard touchdown pass from Towns to Rosenbleeth to tie the game, 7-7.
Â
- The Cowboys responded to Jesuit's first quarter answer with 35 unanswered points, including a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns.
Â
- Smith put the Rangers back on the board with 1:08 remaining in the half with a season-long 30-yard touchdown run to reduce the Cowboys' advantage to 42-14 heading into halftime.
Â
- Jesuit erupted in the third quarter, out-scoring Coppell, 20-7. Towns opened the half with a 35-yard touchdown pass to Smith, then shook off another Coppell touchdown with his third rushing touchdown of the season.
Â
- Head coach Brandon Hickman reached into his bag of tricks and converted an onside kick launched by the kicking unit of juniors James Koshakji and Bernardo Gonzalez. Smith rewarded the special teams with a three-yard touchdown run punctuated with a huge leap over the Coppell defense, slicing the lead to 49-34 with  2:20 left in the third.
Â
- Coppell clinched the contest with two fourth quarter touchdowns, shaking off an incredible catch by Rosenbleeth where the senior leaped into the air while draped by two Coppell defenders to catch his second touchdown reception of the evening.
Â
Inside the Numbers
Â
- The 75-yard touchdown pass from Towns to Rosenbleeth is the longest scoring play of the year, surpassing a 62-yard run from Priddy against Lake Travis on Sep. 15.
Â
- Rosenbleeth has pieced together a phenomenal senior season through four games, averaging 159.5 yards per game and 15.9 yards per catch. The senior is responsible for 45.8 percent of Jesuit's total receiving total while matching Smith with a team-leading three touchdown receptions.
Â
- Junior Matthew Priddy completed his first pass of the season, a 66-yard completion on a trick play to Rosenbleeth that set-up Smith's highlight-reel touchdown run in the third quarter.
