Rangers Race to Early Lead, Snapping Skid Against Skyline

Jumping out to an early advantage, Jesuit Dallas snapped a four-game losing streak to Skyline with a 71-46 win over the Raiders on Friday evening at Skyline H.S. in Southeast Dallas. The beginning of a three-game road trip for the Rangers, Friday's victory positions Jesuit in a tie for first in the district standings, with key matchups against Coppell and J.J. Pearce on the horizon.

Senior Marcus Hill and junior Max Abmas scored 20 points apiece to lead the charge, anchoring a Jesuit offense that shot 52.2 percent from the floor and 52 percent from three-point range. Senior Reid Hatzmann tacked on 11 points with a squad-leading five assists while junior Anthony Hollerich dragged down a team-leading six rebounds. Senior Joey Preboy blocked two shots while Abmas added three steals.

How it Happened

  • The Rangers erupted out of the gate for a 16-3 lead at the end of the first quarter, hitting five three-pointers in the opening eight minutes while holding Skyline to 1-of-11 from the floor.

  • In the second quarter, Jesuit bolstered its lead to 23 points by forcing three Skyline turnovers, hitting five more three-pointers to wrap the first half shooting 10-of-14 from behind the arc and 12-of-21 from the floor, entering the halftime break with a 35-12 lead. Hill logged 15 first half points to lead the Jesuit Dallas effort, followed by six points from Abmas.

  • Skyline opened the third quarter hitting 5-of-9 shots from the field, slicing the lead to 19 points. But Jesuit put the game out of reach with 12 unanswered points, taking a 31-point lead into the fourth quarter. The Rangers capped the victory in the final quarter of regulation, leading by 24 points or more throughout the final eight minutes to clinch the key district win.

By the Numbers
