Game Recap: Hockey - Varsity Gold |

Seniors Send Rangers to Third Consecutive Win

The Rangers toppled division-leading Frisco, 6-3 on Thursday evening at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Plano. Jesuit erupted for four goals in the second period to improve its winning streak to three games dating back to October 4.

Senior Bryce Clark continued his strong start to the season, scoring two goals to increase his season total to four tallies on the year through five games. Senior Matthew Wrobel led the team with three points, scoring a goal and adding two assists. Seniors Nicholas Zang tacked on a goal and an assist, classmate Joseph Van Beek added a goal of his own and freshman Chase Neel tacked on his first varsity goal. Juniors Bennett Croskey and Luke Skaggs their first assists of the season.

Jesuit senior netminder Caden Rupnow excelled in his first start of the season, making 22 saves to earn his first win of the year. Clark added a 10-of-18 clip in faceoffs, helping Jesuit win 23-of-42 faceoffs on the day.

Frisco took 18 first period shots compared to 12 from the Rangers, but neither team was able to get past the opposing netminder prior to the first intermission. In the second, Frisco opened the scoring with a goal 1:34 seconds into the period to take an early, 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later, Wrobel found Clark for the equalizer.

After Jesuit's first goal of the contest, Frisco took the lead back with 9:17 remaining before Jesuit erupted for three unanswered goals on tallies from Zang, Clark and Wrobel, taking a 4-2 lead into the second intermission.

Neel's first goal of the season kicked off the third period for the Blue and Gold, who were able to take a three-goal lead with 9:46 remaining in regulation. Frisco scored with 7:47 remaining, but a power play goal by Van Beek off of a pass by Skaggs provided a critical insurance goal. The Jesuit defense locked down on Frisco down the stretch, turning aside nine third period shots to clinch the win.

Jesuit Dallas will return to the StarCenter in Richardson for an 8:45 p.m. faceoff against McKinney on October 25. The Rangers will remain at Richardson for the next three weeks and are set to battle Plano West on Nov. 1 before clashing with Keller on Nov. 8.
