Trailing by a goal in the waning moments of the third quarter, Jesuit Dallas hockey rallied with three unanswered goals over the final six minutes of the third period to score a 4-2 win over Coppell on Thursday at the StarCenter in Farmers Branch. A 19-save outing by junior goalkeeper
Jack Rahlfs and a pair of goals from sophomore forward
Chase Neel sparked the Rangers to their fourth win in their last five contests.
Â
Junior
Seth Dragojevic scored a goal and an assist to aid the Ranger effort as his senior brother
JonMikal Dragojevic added a pair of assists. Senior
Matthew Wrobel scored what would be the game-winning goal for his 11th goal of the year as junior
Chase Phillips added an assist on Dragojevic's critical third-period insurance goal. Rahlfs made 11 saves in the second period to keep a Coppell rally at bay as the Rangers went 2-for-5 on power-play opportunities.
Â
Both teams battled back and forth before Neel scored Jesuit's first goal with 4:08 remaining in the opening period, managing to put a stick on a puck in a crease after a wrist shot from JonMikal procured a loose puck on the rebound. JonMikal looked poised to give Jesuit a 2-0 lead moments later, taking the faceoff down the ice and lifting a back-handed shot underneath the cross bar, but the goal was waved off due to the net coming off its moorings.
Â
After both teams played a clean first period, Coppell earned the first power play opportunity for either team on a tripping call 1:05 into the second period. Jesuit was able to turn the power play away and earned its first power play chance moments later on another tripping call. Despite 12 shots in the period, Jesuit was unable to cash in another tally before Coppell's Trevor Moore ripped a wrist shot into the net on a breakaway to send the bout into the third period tied, 1-1.
Â
Moore struck again 4:59 into the third period to hand Coppell its first lead of the contest. The Cowboys, hoping for a repeat of their 2-1, early season win over the Rangers on September 26, hurt their case with a tripping call at the 8:30 mark of the third period. Neel sent home another rebound in the slot from
Seth Dragojevic to tie the contest once again as the Rangers developed another key opportunity, earning a 5-on-3 after two quick Coppell penalties after Neel's equalizer.
Â
Wrobel increased his goal total on the year to 11 tallies, rifling home a shot from the right faceoff circle that snuck between the Coppell netminder's pads to give Jesuit a 3-2 lead. A fantastic, cross-ice pass from Phillips found the waiting stick of
Seth Dragojevic, who sent a writer into the net for the two-goal lead with 3:20 remaining in the bout.
Â
The Ranger defense was able to hold Coppell scoreless down the stretch as the Cowboys' final penalty with 18 seconds remaining snuffed out the comeback attempt.
Â
Jesuit will return to action on Thursday, November 29 at 7 p.m. when the Blue and Gold battles Allen at the StarCenter in Richardson. The Rangers will enter the contest on a three-game winning streak, currently two points behind McKinney for second place in the AT&T Metroplex Hockey League. Allen enters the bout with a 2-7-0 record, hoping to grab footing in the varsity gold division while snapping a two-game skid.
