A possession-based offense and a critical fourth-quarter turnover allowed McKinney to spoil Jesuit's homecoming and senior night, as the Lions defeated the Rangers, 24-14, on Friday night at Postell Stadium. The Rangers saw several impressive performances from its junior class contingent, but several critical plays did not go the way of the Blue and Gold as Jesuit dropped its fifth straight game.

Junior quarterbacks
Kevin Shuman and
Rance Holman each completed a touchdown pass as Shuman led the team with 119 yards on seven completions, followed by four completions for 40 yards by Holman. Junior
EJ Smith saw his string of consecutive 100-yard rushing games end but made up the difference as a receiver, closing out the bout with eight catches for 112 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore
Jake Taylor closed out the game as the team's leading rusher, carrying the ball nine times for 33 yards.

Nick Hafertepe snagged his first touchdown since his return from injury, securing his second touchdown of the season in the third quarter for the Rangers. Junior
Tommy Roy racked up a career-high 12 tackles, matching a season-high with two tackles for loss. Juniors
Jack Barton and
Zach Pendola tacked on eight and seven tackles, respectively as senior
Andrew Gregory posted a six-tackle outing on senior night. Junior Ford Bucker closed the contest with a career-high five tackles.

McKinney dominated time of possession, rushing the ball 50 times for 285 yards to as the team held the ball for 29:44 of the 48-minute contest. The Rangers averaged 14.5 yards per completed pass to finish the game with 159 rushing yards but were held to a 3-of-8 conversion rate on third downs. The Lions were able to extend drives by going 2-of-3 on fourth-down conversions and scored on all four trips into the red-zone.

- Jesuit stalled on its opening drive, going three-and-out to give McKinney its first possession at its own 38-yard line. The Lions scored the game's opening touchdown to culminate a 12-play, 73-yard drive that took 6:54 to take an early seven-point lead.

- The two teams traded drives before a McKinney punt was fumbled by Jesuit, giving the Lions to ball deep in Jesuit territory. McKinney's second touchdown of the game spotted the visitors a 14-0 lead going into the second quarter.

- The Rangers got on the board in their first drive of the second quarter as Shuman found Smith for a 65-yard touchdown reception, turning a third-and-13 into a touchdown to close the deficit to seven with just under 11 minutes remaining in regulation time.

- Jesuit was unable to score the equalizer prior to halftime while McKinney added a 20-yard field goal with 56 remaining after the Rangers stalled the Lions on first and goal at the five-yard line. Junior Jhalen Spicer recorded a critical tackle as McKinney seemed poised to score on a 47-yard run, but the junior stopped McKinney's Kelvin Thomas before crossing the goal line.

- In the third quarter, Jesuit forced a McKinney three-and out, but punted the ball back to the Lions after a penalty on a third down conversion. McKinney distanced themselves from the Rangers with another touchdown drive, taking a 24-7 lead with 5:20 remaining in the third.

- Smith put the Rangers back in scoring position with a 75-yard kickoff return, giving Jesuit the ball at the McKinney 24-yard line. Hafertepe caught a 24-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the Ranger drive, bringing the Blue and Gold to within 10 points of the Lions

- McKinney iced the contest with three drives over the final 16:14 of the contest that took up 12:28, culminating with a 13-play, 21-yard drive that encapsulated the final 6:58 of the fourth quarter. Jesuit made one final attempt at the Lions' lead with 7:42 remaining in the fourth, but a McKinney interception ended the comeback attempt.
