Jesuit Dallas hockey snapped a 13-game losing skid on senior night with a resounding effort, upending Plano East 5-3 at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Plano on Thursday evening.
Â
The Rangers were anchored by a stellar performance from senior
Jacob Berg, who scored two goals and added two assists for the Jesuit Dallas effort. In total, four members of the Ranger lineup found the scoresheet, including goals from seniors
Anthony Calabrese,
Michael Keelan and junior
Bryce Clark. Junior
Caden Rupnow started in goal, responding with an eyebrow-raising 17 saves, shutting down a Wolves offense that scored 20 goals in the last two matchups against the Rangers.
Â
Jesuit came out of the gate firing, scoring three goals in the first four minutes of the first period. Clark opened the contest with a tally, putting the puck past the Plano West goalie off of assists from Calabrese and freshman
Seth Dragojevic to spot Jesuit a 1-0 lead. Berg scored his first goal of the game on the Ranger power play, scoring on assists from freshman
James Berg and Calabrese to put the Rangers up by two goals.
Â
Calabrese added Jesuit's third goal, putting away a loose puck in the crease after a shot from
Jacob Berg. Plano West lit the lamp in the waning moments of the period to go into the first intermission trailing, 3-1. The Wolves tied the contest at 3-3 after scoring a goal in the second and an equalizer 42 seconds into the third.
Â
The Rangers took the lead with 9:06 remaining in the third on a deflected slapshot from
James Berg. Set up by a pass from junior
Nicholas Zang, Berg laced a shot towards the goal that found the waiting stick of Keelan, finding twine and putting Jesuit up by one midway through the third. Berg capped the Rangers' victory with a booming shorthanded goal, spotting the Rangers a two-goal lead with 4:59 remaining in the bout.
Â
Jesuit Dallas will close the season on Thursday, Feb. 15 against Southlake Carroll. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. from the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Richardson.
