A dominant performance by freshman
Gavin Perryman in his first varsity start sparked the Rangers to a two-game split in the first day of the 2018 Jesuit Dallas Baseball Classic at Wright Field. Jesuit Dallas would upend the Forney Jackrabbits, 5-2 in the first game before dropping a 6-1 decision to Plano West in the nightcap.

The first freshman to start a game on the mound under the tutelage of head coach
Brian Jones, Perryman threw a complete seven innings, striking out six while allowing only two runs on five hits. Seniors

Garrett Reuben drove in runs while Reuben led the team with a 2-for-2 performance, scoring a pair of runs. Lopez, senior

Caden Carlson scored runs for the Rangers, who improved a season-opening win streak to four games with the victory.

Against Plano West, the Rangers scored a run in the first inning but were held in check by Wolves' pitcher Jack Hattrup, who struck out 11 Jesuit batters en route to the win. Reuben went 2-for-3 with a run driven in while Jesuit starting pitcher
Jack Lynch threw six innings, striking out 12 while allowing three runs on four hits.

How it Happened – Forney

- After a scoreless first, the Rangers led off the second with a single up the middle by Reuben. The junior advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a sacrifice bunt by Carlson. Jesuit plated its first run when Reuben advanced home on a passed ball.

- Jesuit was able to take advantage of another Forney pitching miscue in the bottom of the third as Przybylski was walked to start the frame. Sophomore Jalon Mack bunted Przybylski to second before scoring on a double down the right field line by Lopez. Two more wild pitches scored Lopez, spotting the Rangers a 3-0 lead after three innings.

- Forney put a runner aboard with two outs, but sophomore catcher Tyson Pointer caught the Jackrabbit runner stealing at second base to end the inning. A single to right center field by Gramling scored Carlson in the bottom of the inning to increase the lead to four runs.

- After the Jackrabbits scored two runs in the top of the fifth, Reuben clinched the win with a home run in the sixth. The junior took the first pitch of his at bat deep to right field, returning the lead to three and allowing the freshman the chance to cap the win. Perryman retired the Jackrabbits in order to clinch his first varsity win.Â

How it Happened – Plano West

- Lopez singled to shortstop with one out to put the Rangers in position early in the contest. A single to right by Reuben plated the senior for an early, 1-0 lead for the Blue and Gold. The Rangers placed runners in scoring position during the second inning but were unable to gather another run before Plano West scored two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth for a 3-1 lead.

- In the sixth inning, Jesuit looked poised to cut into the two-run deficit, putting the tying run into scoring position with two outs. However, the Wolves worked their way out of the inning before putting the game away with three more runs in the seventh.

Jesuit will continue the six-game classic schedule with a double-header against Xavier and Lovejoy on Friday. The Rangers will conclude the week with games against Sherman and Bishop Lynch on Saturday.
