Rangers Rally Past J.J. Pearce to Continue Winning Streak

Another complete-game effort from senior Tyler Murrah and a fifth-inning rally propelled Jesuit Dallas to a 6-4, University Interscholastic League (UIL) District 9-6A win over J.J. Pearce on Monday in Richardson, Texas. Jesuit outscored the Mustangs 5-1 over the final three innings to score its seventh consecutive win.

Murrah struck out nine hitters en route to his fifth complete game victory of the season. The senior has dominated opponents throughout the year with a 1.63 earned run average and has only allowed five earned runs over three starts against district competition. Seniors Maccoy Lopez and Bijan Kamalipour led the charge in the batters' box as Lopez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and run scored while Kamalipour drove in two runs on a 1-for-3 performance. Junior Caden Carlson and sophomore Jalon Mack scored twice for the Blue and Gold, who forced seven walks and stole two bases.

How it Happened

  • After a scoreless first inning, J.J. Pearce opened the scoring in the bottom of the second off of a Jesuit Dallas error. The Rangers responded with an equalizer in the top of third, sparked by a walk to Lopez. Junior Jack Lynch cracked a single through the left side of the infield to move Mack into scoring position before a single to left by Kamalipour allowed Lopez to cross home plate and tie the game at 1-1.

  • Pearce would secure a two-run lead with runs in the third and fourth inning before the Rangers came charging back in the fifth. A leadoff walk to Carlson led to a rally-starting run off of a Pearce error to cut the lead to one. A wild pitch plated Mack before Gramling forced another error by the J.J. Pearce infield that scored Lopez to give Jesuit Dallas the lead.

  • Another Pearce run in the bottom of the fourth tied the game again before Jesuit logged a game-clinching effort in the top of the sixth. Back-to-back singles by senior Luke Przybylski and Carlson preluded a full-count walk to Lynch that loaded the bases with two outs. Lopez beat out a throw on a hit to shortstop that scored Przybylski to hand Jesuit the lead back before a bases-loaded walk to Kamalipour spotted Jesuit a two-run lead.

  • Murrah went back to work with a two-run lead, working his way out of a runner in scoring position with no outs in the bottom of the sixth. The J.J. Pearce seventh saw the Mustangs place the first runner aboard on a single through the left side, but the senior retired the side with the tying run at the plate to clinch Jesuit's five straight district win.
