Jesuit Falls to Oak Ridge in Third Game of UIL Area Round

Jesuit Dallas baseball saw its season end on Saturday after a 6-2 loss to Oak Ridge in game three of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 2-6A Area Round in Corsicana, Texas. The Rangers battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the fourth inning but were unable to overcome a determined Oak Ridge squad and finish the season with a 29-9 record.

Junior Tyson Pointer led the way for Jesuit Dallas, scattering a pair of hits. Senior Paul Gramling and junior Jack Lynch each drove in runs for the Blue and Gold as Pointer, Gramling and junior Garrett Reuben each logged a double. Senior Peter Delkus started on the mound, striking out five while giving up four runs on seven hits over 5.2 innings of work. Senior Chris Irby and freshman Gavin Perryman appeared in relief appearances, helping keep the Rangers within striking distance of the War Eagles.

How it Happened
  • The Rangers placed their first runner into scoring position in the bottom of the first after an infield single by senior Maccoy Lopez. The senior moved to second base with two outs, but Jesuit was held scoreless to end the opening frame. The two teams would remain scoreless through three innings as Jesuit Dallas ended both the second and third innings by grounding into double plays.

  • Oak Ridge earned two walks and a single to load the bases with no outs in the top of the fourth inning. Three straight singles spotted the War Eagles a 4-0 lead before the Rangers were able to close out the inning.

  • The Rangers scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut into the Oak Ridge lead. Paul Gramling laced a double down the right field line to plate senior Bijan Kamalipour for the Rangers' first run. Senior Pinch runner Cole Beach, who pinch ran after a double to left by Pointer, scored on a single up the middle by Lynch to cut the lead in half.

  • Irby entered the game in the top of the fifth, working his way out of a bases loaded situation to keep the Rangers' deficit to two runs. The Rangers had two runners on with one out in the bottom of the sixth after Reuben launched a double to left and Gramling was hit by a pitch, but Jesuit was unable to get the critical base hit to cut further into the lead.

  • Oak Ridge secured two critical insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning. The War Eagles held the Rangers without a base runner in the bottom of the seventh to clinch the series.
