Jesuit Snaps Skid with Tie Against Prosper

Ranger soccer snapped a two-game district skid with a 1-1 tie against Prosper on Jan. 29. With the tie Jesuit moves to 0-2-1 in district ahead of a matchup against league unbeaten Allen on Friday.

Junior Diego Sierra scored his seventh goal of the year off of an assist from sophomore Ryan Shea in the first half to put the Rangers ahead. However, an electric Prosper offense recorded 24 shots, leading to an early second-half goal which propelled the Eagles to a tie against the Rangers. Senior Connor Tullis made eight saves to keep the contest tied at the end of regulation as Jesuit finished the contest with 14 shots, seven shots on goal and a pair of corner kick attempts.

The Rangers took control of the game early as a pair of shots from junior Stratton Ross and a header from senior Will Foerster were turned away over the opening 10 minutes. Prosper switched the field and took three shots in the 12th minute, but Jesuit's defense stood firm. Jesuit cashed in on its ensuing offensive salvo as Sierra took a pass from Shea on the far sideline and beat his man heading towards the net for Jesuit's first goal of the contest.

Prosper seemed destined to tie the game over the final 15 minutes of the first half, but two of the Eagles' six shots were blocked and one was saved by Tullis to send the game into halftime with the Rangers ahead by a goal.

In the second half, Prosper tied the contest at 1-1 in the 48th minute off of a rebound as Gavyn Rosales scored on a shot which went of the post. The Eagle defense would hold the Rangers in check during the second half, out-shooting Jesuit, 11-3. Tullis made three saves over the final 20 minutes to preserve the tie.

Jesuit will return to action on Friday, Feb. 1 against Allen. The Eagles enter Friday's contest with a 3-0-0 record in league play and have yet to yield a goal to a district opponent. The Rangers will host four of their next five games, including a three-game home stand which begins on Feb. 8.
