Jesuit Hockey Sweeps Allen to Win TAHA State Championship

A dominant, two-game effort by the Ranger hockey team secured the program's fifth Texas Amateur Hockey Association (TAHA) Division I Pure Championship with a two-game sweep of Allen on Jan. 24-25 at the Dr. Pepper StarCenter in Valley Ranch. Senior JonMichael Dragojevic racked up six points over the two-game set, including a four-goal performance on Saturday to help the Rangers clinch the championship.

Sophomore Seth Dragojevic scored two goals in the first game, as senior Bryce Clark added a tally in game one. Junior Jack Rahlfs finished the series with 49 saves, making 19 stops in game one before a stellar, 30-save outing on Saturday. Seth Dragojevic added three assists as seniors Ivan Belikov and Joseph Van Beek posted an assist each.

In game one, Jesuit took a 1-0 lead five minutes in on a tally from Seth Dragojevic. Allen would tie the game at the 4:42 mark on the power play before Jesuit took the lead back on an unassisted goal from Clark at the 10:39 mark of the second period. A late second period tally from Allen sent the contest into the third tied, 2-2, setting the stage for a battle between the two teams over the final 17-minute period.

A stalemate over the opening 13 minutes was broken when JonMikal Dragojevic found his brother Seth for the go-ahead goal with 4:33 left. Rahlfs and the Jesuit defense locked down on Allen over the final moments of regulation to clinch a 1-0 lead in the series.

Midway through the opening period of game two, Belikov passed the puck to the near side faceoff circle, landing a crisp pass to Seth Dragojevic. Seth would fire a cross-crease pass to JonMichael Dragojevic, who ripped a shot past the Eagle netminder to give Jesuit a 1-0 lead. Allen scored three seconds into the second period to tie the contest once again, scoring the lone goal of the period as the two teams went into the third period tied, 1-1.

JonMichael broke the tie at the 13:05 mark of the third, adding a critical insurance goal three minutes later to give the Rangers a two-goal lead. Allen put pack a loose puck after a highlight-reel save from Rahlfs, but JonMichael put the game away with 2:16 left, scoring a power play goal to return the lead to two tallies. Over the final moments of the third period, the Rangers controlled the game and possession of the puck

With the tournament championship, Jesuit Dallas has earned a berth in the USA Hockey National Championships, representing Texas at the tournament which will take place from Mar. 28 to Apr. 1 in Cleveland, Ohio. Jesuit went 1-2 at its last trip to nationals in 2015, where the Rangers defeated Santa Margarita (Calif.) before dropping bouts to Regis Jesuit (Colo.) and North Broward Prep (Fla.).

Although the state tournament has concluded, the Rangers now enter the home stretch of the 2018-19 AT&T Metroplex Hockey League season. With three games left in the regular season, Jesuit is in third place of the Varsity Gold division, leading fourth-seeded Highland Park by four points.

The Rangers will celebrate its nine-member senior class on Thursday, Jan. 31 prior to their 7 p.m. game against Coppell at the Richardson StarCenter. Thursday's contest will be streamed live on JesuitRangers.org.
