Jesuit Dallas upset reigning University Interscholastic League (UIL) Division II-6A State Champion Longview, 27-25, on Friday night, ending Longview's 27-game winning streak and earning its first UIL Regional Quarterfinal berth since 2013.

The Rangers' first win in program history over the Lobos comes as a massive upset in the UIL Region 2-6A bracket as the Lobos, who entered Friday ranked No. 23 in the nation according to
MaxPreps, fell to a determined Jesuit Dallas team that took down the Goliath of Division II-6A with a carefully executed game plan, big plays in all three phases of the game, and a grit that pushed Jesuit into the regional quarterfinal round.

EJ Smith rushed the ball 27 times for 165 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. The Ranger offensive line pushed the pace for 213 total yards, collecting nine first downs on the ground while helping Jesuit achieve a 28:15-19:41 possession advantage. Senior

Longview scored with 8:36 remaining in the fourth quarter and went for two points and the tie, but senior
Ethan Lane shut down the Lobos at the goal line to keep Jesuit in the lead. The Rangers took the ball at their own 37-yard line with 8:28 remaining and ran the clock out with a 16-play, 56-yard drive. Jesuit collected first downs on third-and-six, fourth-and-five and fourth-and-12 to clinch the win.

Senior
Jhalen Spicer was a massive contributor, securing a first quarter interception before blocking an extra point in the second quarter that kept the Rangers ahead at the halftime break. Jesuit never trailed in the contest, taking a touchdown lead on its first possession of the game and keeping a Longview offense that averaged over 45 points per game at bay. Spicer then blocked an extra point late in the second quarter, sending Jesuit into halftime leading, 14-13 and forcing the Lobos to attempt a pair of two-point conversion sin the second half, both of which failed to keep Jesuit ahead.
Jesuit's defense held Longview to 6-of-11 on third down and 296 yards, well under the Lobos' 462-yard average. Sophomore
Robert Fitzgerald racked up 11 tackles as seniors Spicer, Lane,
Tommy Roy and
Jack Barton all recorded six tackles each. Senior
Ford Buckner posted Jesuit's lone tackle-for-loss and four total stops, while junior
Peter Melle added five tackles.

Parker Brown punted the ball three times, averaging 31.3 yards per punt. Spicer would add four kick returns for 98 yards, including a 34-yard kickoff return that set up the game-ending drive in the fourth quarter.

The Rangers will advance to the regional quarterfinal for the first time since 2013 to meet Klein Collins. The Tigers beat previously unbeaten Vandegrift, 28-14 at Monroe Stadium in Austin.
