Jesuit Dallas advanced to the tournament championship game of the 57th Annual Knights of Columbus Bob Stras Dallas Classic, falling to Tascosa, 57-52, on Dec. 7 at Walsh Gymnasium. The Rangers bested MacArthur in overtime, 55-51, in the first round before advancing to the championship final with a 64-48 victory over Lincoln.

Gavin Perryman earned a spot on the all-tournament team after scoring 30 points in the tournament championship, 25 in the tournament semifinal and 11 points in the first round. Senior
Darryl Brown scored a team-leading 20 points in the opening contest before scoring a double-double in the semifinal with 19 points and 14 rebounds.

Conor Moore closed the contest against the Cardinals with 14 points and six rebounds, helping anchor Jesuit to 30 points in the paint and eight second chance points off of 10 offensive rebounds. Brown shot 9-of-14 from the floor and added two blocks and a steal. Jesuit finished the contest 46.7 percent from the floor and held MacArthur to a 38 percent clip, including a 1-of-8 shooting percentage in overtime.

A buzzer-beating three-pointer in the first quarter propelled MacArthur to a seven-point lead heading into the second quarter. The Cardinals took a nine-point lead, but the Rangers started to rally off of a put-back by Moore. Brown threw down a dunk at the 4:57 mark as a three-pointer by senior
Eli Steger cut the MacArthur halftime lead to four points.

The Rangers continued to battle in the third quarter as back-to-back layups by Brown and junior
Will Cordle cut the lead to one. Trailing by three with 10 seconds left. Steger snagged a defensive board and threw a perfect pass downcourt to Moore, who slammed home the dunk at the buzzer to keep Jesuit within a point heading into the fourth.

In the fourth quarter, both teams continued to battle as the post players played major roles down the stretch. With 2:41 remaining, Brown slammed home an alley-oop dunk from Perryman then added a game-tying layup moments later. Linn found Moore for a game-tying layup with 57 seconds remaining before Jesuit was able to hold in the waning moments of regulation, stopping a potential game-winning three-point attempt and the put-back to force overtime.

Moore opened the scoring in overtime with a layup 26 seconds in, and the Jesuit defense held firm as MacArthur went cold from the floor. The Cardinals missed their first seven shots of the extra session, hitting their first field goal of overtime with 14 seconds left to bring the Jesuit lead down to three. However, Perryman hit the backend of a double bonus to clinch the game for the Rangers.

vs. Lincoln – Dec. 6, 2019

Brown scored Jesuit's first basket of the game, which also served as the cue for the annual Teddy Bear Toss. The Ranger faithful covered the court with plush teddy bears that were donated after the conclusion of the game to local toy drives. On the court, Jesuit built a seven-point lead with 1:45 remaining in the quarter, then responded to a Lincoln bucket with a quarter-ending layup by Perryman to send the Blue and Gold into the second quarter holding a 16-9 advantage.

Lincoln battled back in the second, tying the game with 4:09 remaining in the half and taking a three-point lead with 1:07 remaining in the second quarter. However, Jesuit finished the half on a 7-0 run to take a 29-25 lead into the break. In the second half, Jesuit shot 54.2 percent from the floor, 42.9 percent from behind the arc and forced seven Lincoln turnovers to keep the Tigers at bay. Perryman scored 15 points, shooting 6-of-8 in the second half as 11 combined rebounds between Moore and Brown carried the Rangers to the victory.

vs. Tascosa – Dec. 7, 2019

Perryman's career-high point performance was forged by a 13-of-20 outing from the field and four three-pointers. Moore would lead the team with eight rebounds as Perryman and junior
Camden Roy scored two steals each. Tascosa's press and post-oriented offense led to 17 turnovers, which led to 34 points for the Rebels. Jesuit scored 12 points off of 13 offensive boards, but only took one trip to the free throw line during the entire contest.

Tascosa leapt out to a nine-point lead with 5:01 remaining in the first quarter, but a layup by Moore and three-pointer by Linn sliced the lead to four points. A jumper by Perryman and layup by junior
Reid Lynch raced in for a rebound with 27 seconds remaining in the quarter to bring Jesuit to within six points heading into the break. Tascosa took a 10-point lead on the first basket of the third quarter, but the Rangers continued to fight and drew within five on a three-pointer by junior
Camden Roy before entering the fourth trailing by six points.

Both teams continued to score in the fourth, but Jesuit's 21 points were answered by 20 from Tascosa as the Rebels were able to best the Rangers and clinch the tournament title.

Jesuit will head to Philadelphia for a three-game, out-of-state trip. The Rangers will open the slate against Monsignor Bonner at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 12 before a showdown with fellow Jesuit school St. Joseph's Prep at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 13. The Rangers will conclude the trip on Saturday against La Salle College H.S.
