Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten after Convincing Win over Lake Travis

Jesuit closed a dominant weekend road trip with another eyebrow-raising win, upending Lake Travis, 10-2 on Saturday in Austin, Texas. The Rangers shook off an opening tally by the Cavaliers with 10 unanswered goals, using an incredible defensive effort to hold Lake Travis without a goal for over 42 minutes of the contest.

Senior Peter Buell led the charge with a hat trick, earning his second hat trick of the season following a career-high six-goal outing against Allen on Feb. 1. Fellow senior Zachary Rilley led the team with two goals and a season-high four assists for a team-leading six-point outing, adding two ground balls. Junior Tommy Hovivian scored two goals and secured a team-high six ground balls while forcing three turnovers while seniors Matthew Priddy, Sam Starr and junior Billy Metz each scored one goal.

Sophomore Henry Suarez grabbed six ground balls, adding a 9-of-12 clip from the faceoff "x". Metz snagged four ground balls, senior Andrew Patton added three ground balls and caused a turnover while junior Jack Selner recorded a team-leading five caused turnovers and two ground balls. The Jesuit defense held Lake Travis to only seven shots in the game, an 8-of-19 success rate in clears while senior William Moran made five saves in cage for the Blue and Gold.

Lake Travis scored a minute into the opening quarter before the Rangers secured control of the contest. Rilley, Buell and freshman Will Reading scored first quarter tallies to spot the Rangers a 3-1 lead at the conclusion of the first quarter before goals from Hovivian and Priddy bolstered the lead to 5-1 at halftime.

Hovivian, Metz, Buell and Rilley scored in the third to increase the lead to one, essentially clinching the contest for Jesuit despite a goal from Lake Travis in the fourth quarter. The Rangers went 12-of-13 in clear attempts during the second half to derail any Lake Travis rally, holding the Cavaliers to four shots in the second half.

The Rangers will return to the Metroplex for a battle against Frisco scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23. Jesuit will host its next home game on Thursday, Mar. 7 when the Rangers battle Plano West.
