Rangers Race Past Mustangs in UIL Bi-District Round

A complete second-half performance sent Jesuit Dallas to the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Region 2-6A Area Round with a resounding 71-39 win over Sachse on Tuesday at Berkner H.S. Entering the second half tied, 27-27, Jesuit Dallas outscored Sachse, 44-12 to advance to the area round for the third consecutive year.

Senior Julius Marble shot 11-of-16 from the floor, 3-of-4 from three-point range and 4-of-4 from the charity stripe for a team-leading 29 points. Marble would add 16 rebounds and three blocks while assisting in a dominant second half which saw Jesuit hold Sachse to 17.9% shooting (5-of-28) in the second half and 1-of-11 from three-point range. Senior Max Abmas scored 12 points as classmate Anthony Hollerich tacked on 11 points to round out Jesuit's double-digit scorers.

Three-pointers from sophomore Gavin Perryman and Hollerich sparked Jesuit to an early, 6-0 lead two minutes into the first quarter. Jesuit would take a nine-point lead with 2:03 remaining on a layup by Perryman before a three-pointer from senior John Phillips spotted Jesuit an 11-point lead going into the second quarter.

Sachse took advantage of several Jesuit turnovers in the second quarter, using a 14-0 run to take a three-point lead with 4:38 left in the half. A three-point play from Marble stopped the bleeding, but the huge run by Sachse was enough to send the contest into halftime tied, 27-27.

The Mustangs scored 27 seconds into the third, but Jesuit would answer Sachse's run with a 19-0 run of its own to take a 17-point lead with 2:49 remaining in the quarter. One of the top plays during the run occurred with 5:29 remaining in the quarter as Wilson volleyed a loose ball heading towards the Jesuit sideline to a breaking Perryman, who converted the layup to spot Jesuit a seven-point advantage. The Rangers held Sachse to only four points in the third quarter while scoring 22, carrying a 49-31 lead into the fourth quarter.

The Rangers continued to put the pressure on during the fourth quarter as Marble scored three field goals over the first two minutes to provide Jesuit a 19-point advantage. Junior Darryl Brown slammed home two dunks down the stretch as the Rangers increased their lead to 30 with 3:10 remaining in the contest en route to the dominant win.

Jesuit will move onto the area round for a matchup against Killeen Ellison from UIL District 12-6A. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. from West H.S. in West, Texas.
