Jackson's Five-Goal Outing, Jesuit Defense Pushes Rangers Past Wolves

A decisive, third-quarter run kept Jesuit Dallas unbeaten on the year courtesy of a 14-3 decision over Plano West on Thursday, Mar. 7 at Postell Stadium. A resounding effort which saw the senior trio of Peter Buell, Jacob Jackson and Matthew Priddy combine for 10 of the team's 14 tallies, the Rangers continue a dominant season-opening streak which has seen the team outscore opponents by eight goals per game en route to its unbeaten start.

Jackson led the charge with five goals on the day, continuing an eyebrow-raising streak during his senior season. In the four games he has started this season, Jackson has scored three or more goals in each contest including his career-high performance against the Wolves. Buell added three goals to secure his third consecutive hat trick as Priddy recorded two goals for the Blue and Gold. Juniors Tommy Hovivian and Billy Metz joined sophomores Sam Teachout and Caidan Vlasimsky in the goal column as senior William Moran earned the win with four saves.

Teachout and Buell recorded two assists each as Hovivian tacked on a team-leading six assists. Junior Jack Selner caused two turnovers as the tandem of sophomores Henry Suarez, Mason Chandler and freshman Will Reading combined to go 14-of-21 in faceoffs.

Buell got the Rangers off and running two minutes into the first quarter as senior Zachary Rilley fed Buell for a game-opening tally. Jackson scored unassisted to increase the lead to 2-0 before Plano West scored its first goal to cut the lead in half. Jesuit's final possession of the quarter paid off as Metz found twine with 38 seconds remaining in the first quarter clock, sending Jesuit into the second quarter holding a 3-1 lead.

In the second quarter, two goals by Buell and a tally by Jackson handed Jesuit a 6-1 lead before West closed the half with two unanswered tallies to slice into the lead. Holding a three-goal advantage in the third quarter, neither team scored until the 5:56 mark, when Hovivian ripped a shot past Wolves' netminder Jacob Higginbotham to spark a game-changing run. Jesuit would outscore Plano West, 5-0 in the third quarter to take a dominating, 11-3 advantage into the fourth. Jackson scored three of his five goals in the third quarter, including a goal with 10 seconds remaining in the quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Jesuit close out the win and second half shutout with tallies from Priddy, Teachout and Vlasimsky. The Rangers would hold Plano West to only three shots in the fourth quarter, winning three out of four faceoffs and collecting nine fourth quarter ground balls to clinch the victory.

Jesuit will return to action after spring break against Coppell on Wednesday, Mar. 20. The Rangers will then travel to Miami, Florida for a weekend tournament hosted by Belen Jesuit. Jeusit will open the weekend against Tampa Jesuit at 3 p.m. on Mar. 22 before a Saturday doubleheader against Canisius (10 a.m.) and Gonzaga (2:15 p.m.).
