Ranger baseball reached the precipice of a playoff berth with a 13-0 win over McKinney on Thursday. By winning their fifth consecutive game and fourth straight district victory, the Rangers can clinch a spot in the UIL 6A State Tournament with a victory over Plano East next Tuesday. Jesuit secured the season sweep of McKinney with a strong performance on the mound by senior
Jack Lynch along with a career-high performance at the plate by junior
Tanner Jones.

Jones went 2-for-3 with four RBI, launching a three-run double to right center in the sixth inning to give the Rangers a 12-0 lead. Lynch threw 5.1 innings and allowed no runs on four hits while striking out eight batters. Lynch enters the final regular season series with a 1.12 earned run average, a 6-2 record on the mound and 89 strikeouts.

Junior
Braxton Boyle racked up three hits, two runs and an RBI to aid the Jesuit effort, finishing the series. Boyle finished the week with 5-of-7 from the plate with four runs and three RBI to help lead the team. Seniors
Garrett Reuben and
Jaden Woodson scattered two hits each, as Reuben launched his first home run of the season in the fifth-inning. Lynch added three RBI to aid his own cause, pushing his season total to 14 RBI.

After two scoreless innings, Jesuit opened the scoring in the top of the third. A single by senior
Cooper Shawl and double by Boyle put runners at second and third with one out before a single to right by Lynch cleared the bases for a 2-0 lead. A McKinney fielding error allowed pinch runner
Gavin Perryman, giving Jesuit a three-run advantage going into the fourth.

McKinney placed runners in scoring position during the second, third and fourth innings, but Lynch was able to work his way out of each frame with the shutout intact. The fourth inning saw Jones score after a lead-off walk, stolen base and single to center by sophomore
Connor Chavez. In the fifth, Reuben launched a home run to right center before Jones earned his first RBI of the game on a single through the right side which plated Woodson.

The Rangers put the game out of question in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs on eight hits. Runs driven in by Boyle and Lynch started the inning before jones recorded the biggest hit of the game with a bases-loaded double to right center, clearing the bases while giving Jesuit a 12-0 lead.

Shawl drove in Jones with a single to center to score Jesuit's final run of the sixth. Lynch struck out the first batter of the McKinney seventh before senior
Ben Shepherd entered the game in relief for the final two outs.
