How It Happened
Â
- Barton forced a fumble on Arlington's first play from scrimmage, knocking the ball out of the hands of Arlington quarterback Kris Sims on an option play to give Jesuit the ball at the Arlington 46-yard line. The Rangers' ensuing drive stalled and Arlington took advantage, opening the scoring to take a 7-0 lead with 5:39 left in the first. The Colts would add another touchdown on their next drive to take a 14-0 lead with 2:46 left in the first, then capped a 10-play, 39-yard drive with a 41-yard field goal to take a 17-0 lead early in the second quarter.
Â
- The Jesuit Rally began with the Rangers' first drive of the second quarter as Jesuit marched down the field on a 10-yard, 80-yard drive which provided the Blue and Gold their first touchdown of the season. Holman fired a strike to Garrett down the sideline, as the junior caught his first varsity touchdown to cut into the Colts' lead. Arlington rebuilt the three-possession cushion with another touchdown drive after Jesuit's touchdown.
Â
- A 13-yard kick return by junior Charlie Cook set the tone for a six-play, 66-yard scoring drive. Senior Christian Allocco drew a critical pass interference call to put the Rangers at the Arlington 40-yard line before Taylor got to the second level for a 32-yard rush that got the Rangers inside the red zone. Paredes scored his first touchdown of the season in the back portion of the end zone to draw the Blue and Gold to within 10 points with 2:54 remaining in the first half.
Â
- Campbell forced Arlington's second fumble of the game after coming free on the edge and laying a huge hit on Sims, allowing Wood the opportunity to jump onto the ball and give Jesuit the ball at the Arlington 34-yard line. Taylor rushed 32 yards downfield to the two-yard line, scoring on a halfback draw to send Jesuit into halftime trailing, 24-21 and completing a dominant second quarter which saw Jesuit outscore Arlington, 21-7.
Â
- Facing a third-and-24, Holman hit Taylor on a slant pattern before the junior made a key play for the Rangers. Finding some open room to the near hash mark, Taylor ran through several tackles and stayed on his feet for a 26-yard gain to give Jesuit a first down inside the Arlington red zone. However, Arlington made three stops inside the five-yard line to force a turnover on downs.
Â
- Arlington scored on a 99-yard touchdown play to build the lead back to 10 points following the key defensive stop. Jesuit's next drive came up empty after the Rangers missed a 39-yard field goal and Arlington once again took advantage with a 79-yard touchdown to take a three-possession lead with 5:59 left.
Â
- The Rangers fired one final salvo at the Colts as Holman found Garrett for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 4:20 left in regulation. Junior kicker Parker Brown converted a successful onside kick, recovered by senior Jhalen Spicer, to give Jesuit the ball at the Arlington 49-yard line with 4:18 remaining. However, Arlington snuffed the rally with an interception and was able to keep Jesuit out of the end zone over the final four minutes of the game.Â
