Jesuit Dallas scored 40 unanswered points after absorbing a 14-point surge by McKinney Boyd in the opening minutes of the first quarter and secured a 40-21 win over the Broncos on Thursday at McKinney ISD Stadium. The Rangers remain unbeaten in district play with the victory and will take a 2-0 district record into the bye week.
Â
Senior
EJ Smith led the charge with three rushing touchdowns, scoring from eight, 27 and 63 yards to pace Jesuit in the second half. Smith finished the game with 140 rushing yards, averaging 10.8 yards per carry, while catching five passes for 43 yards.
Smith anchored a running game that rushed the ball 45 times for 309 yards. Junior

Jake Taylor carried the ball a team-high 16 times for 80 net yards. Quarterback
Rance Holman rushed the ball 11 times for 57 yards, adding 21 completions for 127 yards.
Â
Sophomore
Robert Fitzgerald made two key plays defensively, catching a pair of interceptions that led to Jesuit touchdowns. Fitzgerald is the first Ranger to catch two interceptions in a game since senior
Jack Barton, who accomplished the feat as a sophomore in 2017. Fitzgerald would add three tackles and a pass breakup, while Barton led the team with seven tackles. Seniors
Chase Walker and
Tommy Roy added six tackles each.
Â
Junior
Parker Brown converted all three of his attempted field goals, knocking kicks from 19, 21 and 31 yards through the uprights to help Jesuit remain within striking distance before taking control in the third quarter. Senior
Mitchell Campbell added his third field goal of the year to open the team's scoring in the first quarter.
Â
Jesuit's defense (3-2, 2-0) was phenomenal on third down, holding McKinney Boyd without a third-down conversion on eight attempts during the game. In addition, the Rangers kept an impressive shutout streak intact, as the Blue and Gold have yet to yield a point to an opponent in the third quarter. Jesuit also dominated time of possession, holding the ball for 29:33 compared to 18:27 for Boyd.

How it Happened
Â
- Boyd scored on its third play from scrimmage then turned around a 12-play Jesuit drive by forcing a fumble at the Bronco two-yard line, recovering the loose ball and scoring a 94-yard touchdown to take a 14-0 lead with 6:54 remaining in the first quarter.
Â
- Jesuit's offense was sparked by a punt by Holman at the beginning of the second quarter, a dropkick that was downed by senior Christian Allocco inside the one yard line. Boyd would go three-and-out and punt to Allocco, who returned a 43-yard punt 33 yards to the Boyd 12-yard line. Campbell would convert a 35-yard field goal moments later to give Jesuit its first points of the game.
Â
- Boyd's offense stalled again as Roy made a huge tackle on fourth-and-one to give the ball back to Jesuit inside Boyd territory. A 10-play drive which only spanned 25 yards was capped by Brown's first field goal of the game at the 3:06 mark to bring Jesuit to within a single possession of Boyd as the teams entered halftime with the Broncos leading, 14-6.
Â
- Senior Jhalen Spicer returned the second-half kickoff 61 yards to give Jesuit the ball at the Boyd 36-yard line, and Jesuit cut the lead to five with a 21-yard field goal by Brown. Fitzgerald caused a turnover on the Broncos' next play from scrimmage, and the Rangers drove in from the Boyd 30-yard line to score their first touchdown of the game on an eight-yard rush from Smith to give Jesuit its first lead of the game with 7:21 remaining in the third.
Â
- McKinney Boyd aimed to stop Jesuit's run, but a sack by senior Ford Buckner after a first down led to another Bronco punt to give Jesuit the ball at its own 11-yard line. Jesuit marched down the field on a seven-play, 89-yard drive finished off on a 27-yard touchdown by Smith, who beat three Bronco defenders to the pylon to give Jesuit a 23-14 lead.
Â
- Sacks by senior Austin Wood and junior Peter Melle on the next drive gave Jesuit the ball at its own 37-yard line. Smith broke away from the pack for a 63-yard touchdown run on the first play of the Ranger drive to increase the lead to 16 points. Brown would add a 31-yard field goal with 6:35 left in the game for a 19-point lead.
Â
- Fitzgerald snagged his second interception of the game with 2:13 left, catching the ball at the Boyd 30-yard line then racing towards the end zone before eventually being brought down at the one-yard line. Morales punched in the ball on the next play for his first varsity touchdown. Boyd would score on the final play of the game to cap a nine-play drive.Â
