Rahlfs' Hat Trick Helps Jesuit Drop Division-Leading Frisco

A hat trick by sophomore Alec Rahlfs sent Jesuit Dallas past division-leading Frisco, 5-3, on Thursday at the Richardson StarCenter. The Rangers entered the third period tied with Frisco, 2-2, but Jesuit closed the matchup with three goals in the third period to score a critical win and move closer to clinching a playoff berth heading into the final three weeks of the season.

Rahlfs racked up one goal in the first and two goals in the third period as junior James McCown and sophomore Nick Boss added the Rangers' final two goals. Senior Chase Phillips, junior Chase Neel and sophomore Jack Sweda scored assists as junior goalkeeper William Carney made 14 saves to move his season total to 110 on the year.

Frisco held a 2-1 lead with 5:03 remaining in the second period, responding to Rahlfs' unassisted first period goal with a pair of unanswered tallies, but Boss capitalized on a power-play to score with 2:20 remaining in the second to send the game into the third tied, 2-2. Neel fed Rahlfs three minutes into the third for the go-ahead goal before Rahlfs completed the hat trick off of a feed by Sweda to give Jesuit a critical insurance goal.

The Rangers withstood a goal by Frisco moments after Rahlfs' third tally before McCown put the game away with a goal assisted by Phillips with 1:50 left.

Jesuit will begin the final stretch of the regular season next Thursday against Highland Park. The Rangers will enter Thursday's battle with the Scots with an eight-point lead in the standings for second place in the district and have the opportunity to clinch one of the top two seeds in the division with a victory. Puck drop is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. at the Richardson StarCenter.
