Game Recap: Hockey - Varsity Gold |

Jesuit Falls to Coppell's Proficient Power Play Unit

Junior Alec Rahlfs scored his first goal of the season, but a late 5-on-3 advantage for Coppell proved to be the difference as the Cowboys scored twice on the advantage and bested the Rangers, 5-1, on Thursday at the StarCenter in Farmers Branch, Texas.

Senior netminder William Carney made 32 saves in net but was unable to overcome a power play offense by Coppell that scored three goals on four man-up opportunities. Freshman Charlie McCarthy recorded his second assist of the season on Rahlfs' even strength, game-tying tally with 6:28 left in the second period.

Jesuit and Coppell went into the third period tied, 1-1, but the Rangers were held scoreless in the third while Coppell distanced itself quickly with two power play goals, an even strength goal and a short-handed, empty-net goal.

The Rangers will await for the remainder of the AT&T Metroplex Hockey League schedule to be released on Friday before learning of their next opponent. This season, a jam-packed varsity gold division includes Coppell, Denton County, Flower Mound, Frisco, Keller, Mansfield, McKinney, Plano West, Southlake Carroll and Jesuit Dallas.
