Jesuit Falls to Arlington in Wild Bi-District Round Showdown

Jesuit Dallas and Arlington clashed in a slugfest of monumental proportions on Friday at Postell Stadium. A back-and-forth affair that included six lead changes, Jesuit made a furious rally trailing by 10 points with under two minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. A touchdown with 1:26 left and a converted onside kick gave Jesuit the chance to stage an unbelievable reverse of fate, but Arlington was able to secure a key pick-six late in the game, intercepting Jesuit on its potential game-winning drive to end the Rangers' season, 49-37, in the UIL Bi-District round.

Junior Gage Roy threw for 332 yards and four touchdowns, completing 25 passes in his junior season finale. Seven of those passes went to senior Charlie Clements, who scored two touchdowns and racked up 197 yards to become the first Ranger with over 175 receiving yards in game since Fletcher Rosenbleeth in 2017.

Senior Jake Taylor racked up 123 yards and 23 carries, recording his seventh 100-yard game of the season and scored a touchdown. Roy additionally completed touchdown passes to senior Charlie Cook and junior Hunter Krepp. Senior Connor Naughton entered the game at quarterback late in the third quarter, completing 3-of-4 passes for 34 yards, including a third down conversion on what would eventually be a scoring drive.

Defensively, junior Robert Fitzgerald recorded nine tackles and two tackles for loss and senior Jack Judson added eight tackles and a 10-yard sack. Senior Major Kent picked up six tackles while seniors Chase Jackson and Ryan Graham made five stops apiece. Junior Cade Jordan attempted a successful onside kick in the fourth quarter that was recovered by senior Pierce Jackson.

Arlington struck first with a touchdown on its opening drive, then intercepted Roy in the end zone to interrupt a promising drive. However, a stalled drive and poor punt opened the door for Jesuit, and Roy threw a stellar teardrop fade to the back of the end zone to Clements to put the Ranger on the scoreboard.

Roy hit Krepp for a 10-yard score early in the second quarter to answer another Colts touchdown, then scored a two-yard rushing touchdown on his own to give the Rangers their first lead of the game at 18-14 with eight-minute remaining in the half. The Cots scored with 24 seconds left until halftime to take a three-point lead into halftime.

Jesuit re-took the lead on a check-down pass from Roy to Cook with 8:28 left in the third and answered a Colts touchdown with a 22-yard run by Taylor on a fourth and one with 1:13 remaining in the quarter. The late-game suspense hit a peak at the 6:49 mark of the fourth, when Arlington scored to take a four point lead. The Colts stopped Jesuit on a fourth down inside the Arlington 10-yard line, then scored on the third play from scrimmage to take a 10-point lead.

The Rangers took the ball down by 10 with 2:17 left, scoring on the fourth play of the drive on a sensational catch-and-run by Clements. Jordan's onside kick gave the Rangers the ball at the Jesuit 39-yard line with 1:25 left. However, the interception return for a touchdown and a lost fumble on the ensuing kickoff ended the comeback attempt and ended Jesuit's season.
